Temor ao Senhor / Fear of the Lord

Temor ao Senhor
Leitura bíblica:
_________________
Naquele dia Davi teve medo do Senhor e se perguntou: “Como vou conseguir levar a arca do Senhor?” (2 Samuel 6.9).

Ele me relatou: “Os oficiais russos compravam nossas Bíblias dizendo: ‘Este livro influencia a conduta moral de quem o lê’. A pessoa fica dócil e ouve a pregação.

Fear of the Lord

That day David was afraid of the Lord and wondered: "How am I supposed to take the Ark of the Lord?" (2 Samuel 6.9).

Back in the days when communism dominated much of the planet, the USSR sent officers of his army to direct the Angolan soldiers. The Russian Communist government forbade the dissemination of the Bible. In that period I stayed in Brazil an Angolan Baptist Minister. He reported: "the Russian officers were buying our Bibles and saying: ' this book influences the moral conduct of who reads '. Without knowing the Lord God, the man acts as if there were no brakes. God, however, is known – is always acting on Earth and, in particular, in the life of each of us. When God manifested his wrath by breaking the laws upon sacred things, as we can read today, David decided to stay away from the Holy Ark. In the verses following, knowing that the family that hosted the Ark was very blessed, he decided otherwise. Brought the Ark to near you. Try to keep God away is not the answer. I have known many people who, on the eve of death or knowing that outside hit by serious illness, changed his attitude. Just the pride, the resistance to the Gospel. The person becomes docile and listen to the preaching. Of course, every once in a while, quite the opposite, the person hardening even more the heart, showing anger. David was upset when he saw the death of Uzzah, inadvertently put his hand on the Ark, but soon changed his opinion.
This episode is rich in guidance for our life. There is great danger in not take God into account, but there is great reward in doing it and love it. Obed-Edom was richly blessed in three months in which the Ark stayed at his home. Well the Scripture tells us: "Near's salvation that he will bring to those who fear him" (Psalm 85.9). The fear of the Lord, namely, the respect and submission to him, guard us from sin, and there is no greater blessing in this life than staying away from sin. (MJT)

Fear God means to approach him, not flee.

Balance

I look forward to and I hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed. On the contrary, with all the usual determination, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death (Philippians 1.20).

In any human endeavor must rely on antagonism. This is contrary to project people postures, who runs it or its purpose. The reasons can be many, but always hinder the progress of what someone set out to accomplish. In today's scriptural reading, the Apostle Paul reports some situations of this type, and the balance in relation to them is clearly visible. He believes that their suffering is in progress of the Gospel – the disclosure was his great project. In prison, Paul lived with a soldier. It is clear that this would be evangelized. Paul brings out the brothers, their prayers, their determination to preach and they do it for love. But there were also the antagonists. These false motivation, with and preached there we see the balance of Paul. What mattered to him was the result. He transfers the God the trial of such persons. It's admirable how his vision was positive.
Which led Paul to be so balanced? The goal. His aim was so great that the difficulties if belittle. The obstacles were regarded as of lesser importance and there was always a positive side to be discovered, mentioned, aggrandized, producing joy in Paul and praises to God. We can say that a man is invincible. His motivation was totally pure. What mattered was Christ be magnified now, in your body, for he well knew that Christ was already being glorified by the father for his redemptive work, as well as by himself and by his sons in the faith in the city of Philippi. (MJT)

Now the challenge: why not embrace this goal and achieve that balance?

Basta! / Simply!

Basta!
Leitura bíblica:

Levante-se e coma, pois a sua viagem será muito longa (1 Reis 19.7b).
_________________

Tira a minha vida!” (v 4).

On your walk with God, Elias encountered discouragement. After facing the prophets of Baal (chapter 18), displeasing the Queen Jezebel, he was threatened with death and, terrified, fled. Walking through the desert, Elias assesses your situation and get depressed. Tired, sit under a Bush and cries out: "I've had enough, Mr. Take my life! " (v 4). At some point in life, we've all been or are still going through moments of great discouragement. Are those stages called deserts, when it seems impossible to take the next step to continue.
The Prophet's experience serves to teach us how to act in these hours. People who deal with depression say that, in a crisis, they feel as if they were inside of a dark hole, cold and lonely, where you can't see anything. Like them, Elias couldn't see ahead, because the discouragement, blind COP's vision of the future and hope. Conscious of their condition, Elias now face the pain and seeking God to treat her. He stands still for a moment, rests, recovers. during this time, the Lord sends an Angel to feed him before he falls asleep again. Later the Angel returned, with food and drink and with a message: "Hey, Elias, Vern! You still have a lot to live! " The words the comfort and animate to walk again.
Convinced that quitting is not the best option, returns to his way. If you are in a situation like that of Elias, when continue appears to have no direction, stop, rest, feed your soul with prayer and Bible reading. Look at the top, because when you're in a dark hole there is no other way. You might want to give up, but rather listen voice of the Lord, as if to say: "get up, my dear son. There is still a lot to live for. I love you and I'm going to work so that everything works out, don't worry. Have courage, I am with you! ". (EB)
If you don't want to walk, stop for a moment and find new strength in the Lord.
