Não apague a luz / Don't turn off the light

Não apague a luz
Leitura bíblica:
_________________
Não apaguem o Espírito (1 Tessalonicenses 5.19).
_________________

Don't turn off the light
Bible reading:

Do not extinguish the spirit (1 Thessalonians 5.19).

The existence of a spirit in our being is the most striking similarity that we have with our Creator. God is spirit and he must be worshipped in spirit and in truth, and not with mechanical and superficial rituals.
However, many times the Holy Spirit is despised by us and gets upset by this. Forget that he was the kind of God used to bring his son into the world, that is he that touches our heart to convince us of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. At the same time it is the seal of guarantee of our redemption. We forget that he's the one who intercedes for us with the father when our prayers cannot express our deepest feelings. Despise the Holy Spirit when we don't follow the biblical guidance, because it brings the inspiration of God to teach us. Also do not forsake our selfishness to take place and allow it to fill and its fruit can be manifested in us (Galatians 5.22-23).
The fruit of the spirit makes God visible in our attitudes. We often cherish your gifts with our conduct and use to envaidecer us, as if the merits were our abilities and talents that we display. Forget often that only for its sweet consolation and help we have strength to bear the pain, courage to forgive offences and hope of eternal life, and we ended up seeking other alternatives to this.
The Holy Spirit is the light which causes God to be seen in our life. We should let it overflow in our being, because we were created to worship. We also run in us the desire to praise God, worshipping him not only with words, but in true attitude that is the result of a perfect communion with him.
The spirit-filled life is the hallmark of those who reign with Christ and with the Father for eternity.

Plenitude / Fullness

Plenitude
Leitura bíblica:
_________________
Todos ficaram cheios do Espírito Santo (Atos 2.4).
_________________

All were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2.4).
_________________
Already in the old testament the prophets Joel (2.28), Isaiah (44.3) and Ezekiel (36.26-27) announced that one day the Holy Spirit was poured out on the people of God. John the Baptist reaffirmed that promise (Marcos 1.8; Matthew 3.1-12) and, finally, Jesus confirms that that would happen (John 7.37-39), including beseeching his father to send the Holy Spirit (John 14.16). In the book of acts we've seen then the promise coming true.
Pentecost was a party established in the book of Leviticus (23.15 s) and celebrated annually by the Jews. It was also called the feast of Weeks, and its celebration was 50 days (hence "Pentecost") after the feast of Firstfruits or feast of first fruits. The feast of Firstfruits was always celebrated the day after the Shabbat (Saturday) after Easter. So I keep falling off on the first day of the week as the Sabbath is the seventh day. Therefore, when Jesus was resurrected on the first day of the week, he became the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep "in accordance with the interpretation of Paul (1 Corinthians 15.20). Fifty days after was then celebrated the feast of Pentecost, according to the timetable of the Israelites.
That day all those who had followed and accepted Jesus were gathered in one place. On that occasion there was a phenomenon wholly outside the control of those present there. Various signs are presented. We could here analyze each of them to take a lesson, but fact is that event was a historic event, unique and universal. Never happen again that way. As well as the death of Christ is repeated continuously, but it was unique and definitive, the outpouring of the spirit was too.
Instead of looking at the signs, it would be more appropriate to look at the result of that event: "everyone was filled with the spirit" (verse 4). Be filled with the Holy Spirit means the "control of the faithful by the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, to be able to live in submission to the will of God".

Justiça própria / Self-righteousness

Justiça própria
Leitura bíblica:
_________________

Self-righteousness
Bible reading:
_________________
[Jonas said the Lord:] I know that you are merciful and compassionate God, very patient, full of love and that you promise to punish, but later regret (Jonas 4.2 c).
_________________
A daughter asked mom: "should I marry or counter with the military?" "There is no what to think, my daughter," replied the mother. "Marry the military, of course. These guys can cook, make the bed and taking orders! " Laughter aside, let's think about the story of Jonah (if you haven't read, are only four chapters) and also on listen – it was exactly what Jonas did not. Why?
Many assume that he was afraid of the Assyrians, known for their cruelty: put his enemies on stakes points, cut off members of his body, stacked skulls, then skinned people alive, tore at pregnant women, killed babies and toddlers. In short, you can think that Jonas had fear.
But in today's text we see that the Prophet let slip the real reason for his disobedience to God: self-righteousness! (4.2). He wanted God to punish these people cruel and he deserved God's wrath! You can actually imagine Jonas thinking: "They're just as bad! God has more is to destroy them even! He still wants me to preach to them? The Assyrians deserve to suffer and die!"
Jonas was brave (see Jonas 1.12-isn't anyone who would say what he said!), but decided to take the law into their own hands. Should have been happy with the repentance of the Assyrians; After all, by his preaching a great city turned to God, but I got bored and cried because of a plant. Gave more value to it than the thousands of people.
We often hide behind our justice, forgetting God's purpose for situations. We love others and to show the light of Christ to them. We look people as God sees them, and not with prejudice or judgment.

The righteousness of God is infinitely better than ours. His mercy reaches out to those who don't deserve it – including us.

Promessas / Promises

Promessas
Leitura bíblica:
_________________

Promises
Bible reading:
_________________
Happy is [who] believed that will fulfill what the Lord said to him! (Luke 1.45)
_________________
"You promise?" – Who live with children surely already heard this exclamation, in a tone that can range from hopeful to tearful. And that adult is not a guilty conscience when is warned that way? In fact, such a complaint, when justified, implies a fairly serious accusation: "You lied to me!". Breaking a promise is this: turn their intentions and plans in a lie, whether intentional or not.
The text of the reading today closes with a long history of promises and oaths that God gave to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and his descendants, the people of Israel. Between Genesis 12 and Joshua 21 God never tires of repeating statements like: "all the land of Canaan... give as perpetual property to you and your descendants; and I will be their God "(Genesis 17.8). After so many promises, there is now: "Of all the good promises the Lord ... none of them failed; all were fulfilled "(verse 45).
A child learns to have faith in their parents when these fulfill what they promise. That trust is built on the day-to-day relationship, in small and big issues. Similarly, my faith and trust in God grow when I interact with him. God does his part: if he promised, will fulfill. There's no doubt – left evidence of their loyalty in the Bible. But just see this in practice if I zoom in to hear what he has to say and are willing to follow its guidelines.
God never gives us reason to doubt him. What he promised, is promised and will comply. End point. He acted like this in the past with the people of Israel. He promises the same kind of care and fidelity to each person who approaches him. So we can drive us to it with the same faith of a child: "you promised and I know you won't abandon me now!"
