Chamados, não aprovados

Leitura bíblica: Números 3.1-4

Aquele que pecar é que morrerá. O filho não levará a culpa do pai, nem o pai levará a culpa do filho. A justiça do justo lhe será creditada, e a impiedade do ímpio lhe será cobrada (Ezequiel 18.20).

Depois de tirar o povo de Israel do Egito, Deus começou a organizar a comunidade. Primeiro estabeleceu leis para o culto e a vida diária. O próximo passo era preparar um exército. Para isso, ordenou que Moisés fizesse um recenseamento dos israelitas. É nesse ponto que começa o livro de Números. Inicialmente, os filhos da tribo de Levi ficariam de fora da contagem (Números 1.47-49). Esta tribo não forneceria soldados, mas seria responsável por cuidar da Tenda do Encontro, o local de culto no deserto. Que privilégio ser escolhido a dedo por Deus para uma tarefa tão importante!

No entanto, o texto bíblico de hoje mostra que nem todos foram aprovados nesta tarefa. Nem sempre filhos de pais piedosos seguem o exemplo destes, e aqui vemos justamente dois filhos de Arão, o sumo sacerdote, desobedecendo às ordens do Senhor e morrendo por causa disso. Nadabe e Abiú tinham assistido a todos os milagres de Deus ao tirar Israel da escravidão do Egito, mas mesmo assim menosprezaram o seu chamado divino.

Como palestrante numa entidade que cuida de drogados na Cracolândia de São Paulo, conheci muitas pessoas vivendo nas drogas cujos pais são fiéis ao Senhor. Por melhor que sejam o exemplo e a educação recebidos em casa, obedecer a Deus é uma escolha pessoal. O relacionamento com Deus não é passado de pai para filho, como se fosse um objeto herdado. Essa é a mensagem que vemos no versículo em destaque. Ter pais fiéis a Deus ou mesmo conhecer bem a Bíblia não é suficiente. Nadabe e Abiú são prova disso. É preciso atender pessoalmente ao chamado de Deus. Você já fez isso?

Called, not approved

Reading biblical: Numbers 3.1-4

The one sin is to die. The child does not take the guilt of the father, nor the father will take the blame. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged (Ezekiel 18.20).

After the people of Israel from Egypt, God began to organize the community. First established laws for worship and everyday life. The next step was to prepare an army. To do so, ordered Moses to do a census of the Israelites. It is at this point that starts the book of numbers. Initially, the children of the tribe of Levi would be outside the count (Numbers 1.47-49). This tribe would provide soldiers, but would be responsible for taking care of the tent of Meeting, the place of worship in the wilderness. What a privilege to be chosen by God for something so important!

However, the biblical text of today shows that not all were approved in this task. Not always godly parents follow the example of these, and here we see just two sons of Aaron, the high priest, disobeying the Lord and dying because of it. Nadab and Abihu had witnessed all the miracles of God to take Israel from the bondage of Egypt, but still looked the your divine calling.

As a lecturer in an entity that takes care of drug addicts in Cracolândia of São Paulo, I met a lot of people living in the drugs whose parents are faithful to the Lord. For better be the example and education received at home, obeying God is a personal choice. The relationship with God is not passed from father to son, as if it were an object inherited. That is the message that we see in verse highlighted. Have parents faithful to God or even knowledge of the Bible is not enough. Nadab and Abihu are proof of that. We must meet in person to the call of God. Have you ever done it?

O que pedir? / What to ask?

O que pedir?

Dominados pela gula no deserto, [os israelitas] puseram Deus à prova nas regiões áridas. Deu-lhes o que pediram, mas mandou sobre eles uma doença terrível (Salmo 106.14-15).

Assim como aconteceu várias vezes comigo, talvez também tenha acontecido com você. Chegamos diante de Deus e não sabemos direito o que pedir. Algumas pessoas têm muito para falar e pedir a Deus. Não é pelas muitas palavras que Deus nos atende: o importante é pedir o que é certo. O texto de hoje nos dá um exemplo do que podemos pedir a Deus em nossas orações. Seu autor faz apenas dois pedidos e ainda justifica o segundo. Ele não quer ter de conviver com a falsidade e a mentira; também não deseja nem pobreza e nem riqueza. Mas por que nem um e nem outro? Se ele fosse rico, poderia vir a correr o risco de abandonar a Deus passando apenas a confiar em suas riquezas. No outro extremo, ele não quer ser demasiadamente pobre a ponto de ter de roubar para sobreviver, desagradando assim a Deus.

O autor é extremamente cuidadoso com o que vai pedir. Primeiramente, está preocupado em fazer pedidos que não o afastem de Deus. Muitas pessoas pedem e exigem de Deus o que querem receber, e às vezes Deus até lhes concede o que pediram, porém esquecem que junto com o pedido pode vir algo não muito agradável (veja um exemplo no versículo em destaque).

Portanto, ao pedir algo para Deus, pense antes se isso lhe permitirá levar uma vida agradável a ele, que o glorifique, e se poderá ajudar outras pessoas. Além disso, como você reagirá ao ter um pedido atendido (talvez um pelo qual você já orou por muito tempo)?

Que nossos pedidos a Deus possam ser equilibrados, sem muita riqueza e sem muita pobreza, mas apenas o necessário para usufruir da vida com alegria e honestidade diante de Deus e das pessoas.

Dominated by the gluttony in the desert, [the Israelites] they put God to the test in the arid regions. He gave them what they asked for, but sent over them a terrible disease (Psalm 106.14-15).

As happened several times to me, maybe also happened to you. We come before God and we don't know what to ask. Some people have a lot to talk about and ask God. It's not for the many words that God see us: the important thing is to ask what's right. The text today gives us an example of what we can ask God in prayer. Its author makes only two requests and still justify the second. He doesn't want to have to live with the falsehood and lying; neither want to nor poverty and not wealth. But why not one and not another? If he were Rico, could run the risk of abandoning God passing just trust their wealth. At the other end, he doesn't want to be too poor to the point of having to steal to survive, thus offending God.

The author is extremely careful with what you're going to have. First, is worried about doing requests that don't take away from God. Many people ask for and demand of God what they want to receive, and sometimes even God gives you what you asked, but forget that along with the request can come something not very nice (see an example in the verse highlighted).

Therefore, when you ask for something to God, think before you if that will allow you to live a life pleasing to him, that the praise, and if you can help other people. In addition, how you will react to having a wish fulfilled (maybe one you've prayed for a long time)?

Our requests to God can be balanced without much wealth and without a lot of poverty, but just enough to enjoy life with joy and honesty before God and people.

Um rei

Leitura bíblica: 1 Samuel 8.1-9

O Senhor respondeu [a Samuel]: Atenda a tudo o que o povo está lhe pedindo; não foi a você que rejeitaram; foi a mim que rejeitaram como rei (1 Samuel 8.7).

A partir de Abraão, Deus formou para si um povo que seria só seu – Israel. Ele procurava deixar isso muito claro: “Vocês são um povo santo para o Senhor, o seu Deus. O Senhor, o seu Deus, os escolheu dentre todos os povos da face da terra para ser o seu povo, o seu tesouro pessoal” (Deuteronômio 7.6). Por ser diferente e exclusivo, Israel não era governado por reis como as nações vizinhas, mas pelo próprio Deus, que no momento o fazia por meio de Samuel. No entanto, no texto que você acabou de ler temos o registro de um fato muito marcante nesta nação: ela pede a Samuel, que foi seu líder por muitos anos, um rei. Esse pedido não inclui apenas o desejo por um novo líder, mas a troca do modelo de liderança. Samuel não gostou: não era apenas uma rejeição ao estilo de liderança, mas ao próprio Deus.

Nós não somos israelitas, mas se você crê em Jesus como verdadeiro Filho de Deus também faz parte do povo do Senhor, que hoje não se limita a uma nação, mas alcança toda pessoa que reconhece o senhorio de Cristo e entrega a direção da sua vida a ele. Os seguidores de Jesus são desafiados a não se amoldarem aos padrões desse mundo que vive sem Deus (Romanos 12.2). Assim como os israelitas deveriam ser diferentes, os cristãos devem viver não em conformidade aos moldes deste mundo, e sim conforme a vontade de seu rei, Jesus Cristo. Toda vez que seguimos os padrões deste mundo estamos rejeitando o reinado de Deus em nossa vida.

Os israelitas continuaram sendo identificados como o povo de Deus, mas em sua maioria isso era apenas algo nominal. O mesmo risco correm hoje também muitas pessoas que são identificadas como cristãs, mas não vivem sob o senhorio e em obediência a Cristo. E na sua vida, quem reina?

A King

Reading biblical: 1 Samuel 8.1-9

The Lord replied [Samuel]: Answer to everything that people are asking you; It wasn't you who rejected; It was me who rejected as King (1 Samuel 8.7).

From Abraham, God formed for himself a people who would be your only – Israel. He sought to leave it very clear: "You are a holy people to the Lord, your God. The Lord, the your God, chose among all peoples of the Earth to be your people, your personal treasure "(Deuteronomy 7.6). For being different and unique, not Israel was ruled by Kings as neighboring Nations, but by God himself, which at the time made through Samuel. However, in the text that you just read have a very striking fact in this nation: she asks Samuel, that was your leader for many years, a King. This request does not include only the desire for a new leader, but the exchange of the leadership model. Samuel didn't like: was not only a rejection of the leadership style, but God himself.

We are not Israelites, but if you believe in Jesus as the true son of God is also part of the Lord's people, who today is not confined to one nation, but reaches every person who recognizes the lordship of Christ and gives the direction of your life. The followers of Jesus are challenged to not adjust the standards of this world who live without God (Romans 12.2). Just as the Israelis should be different, Christians should live not in accordance to templates of this world, but as the will of your King, Jesus Christ. Every time we follow the standards of this world we're rejecting the reign of God in our lives.

The Israelites continued to be identified as the people of God, but in your most it was just something nominal. The same risk run today, too many people who are identified as Christians, but do not live under the landlord and in obedience to Christ. And in your life, who reigns?
