Leitura Bíblica: 1 Tessalonicenses 4.1-12

Quanto ao mais, irmãos, já os instruímos acerca de como viver a fim de agradar a Deus… Agora lhes pedimos e exortamos no Senhor Jesus que cresçam nisso cada vez mais (1 Tessalonicenses 4.1).

Cada pessoa sofre a influência do mundo em que vive. A forma como isso acontece muda com o tempo e o lugar, mas jamais deixa de existir. Cem anos atrás, ninguém sabia o que era televisão, celular e internet, mas conhecia-se o teatro e o cabaré. Da mesma forma, cada indivíduo tem a oportunidade de influenciar o seu entorno com suas palavras e comportamentos.

A sociedade grega, em que os tessalonicenses viviam, era muito liberal em sua vida sexual, inclusive nos templos, que promoviam prostituição em honra aos ídolos. Assim, para o cristão, principalmente o novo convertido, podia ser muito difícil seguir os padrões de Deus. O leitor poderá pensar: “Já vi esse filme”. De fato, a situação no Brasil não é diferente. Vemos isso com especial clareza nesses dias de Carnaval.

No entanto, o cristão precisa ficar atento ao seu modo de viver. Seu objetivo precisa ser sempre agradar a Deus. Na leitura bíblica, Paulo reconhece que os seus leitores estavam buscando isso, mas diz que deveriam crescer nesse objetivo. Apesar de a luta contra a maioria ser muito dura, é preciso ficar firme. Acomodar-se seria como baixar as armas no meio da batalha: não é descansar, é arriscar-se, e muito! Às vezes, cedemos à pressão à nossa volta em coisas aparentemente pequenas, achando que o prejuízo – se houver – será facilmente recuperado. No entanto, quem cede um pouco hoje facilmente cederá mais um pouco amanhã, até perder o controle.

O grande ideal que Paulo recomenda aos tessalonicenses é que influenciem seu entorno com seu amor e sua conduta irrepreensível, em vez de se deixarem influenciar por ele. E essa recomendação continua valendo até hoje, sejam os desafios atuais parecidos ou não com os daquela época.

Bible reading: 1 Thessalonians 4.1-12

Finally, brothers, we instruct them about how to live in order to please God. Now we ask and we exhort in the Lord Jesus who grow it more and more (1 Thessalonians 4.1).

Every person suffers the influence of the world in which he lives. The way that happens changes over time and place, but never ceases to exist. A hundred years ago, no one knew what was television, phone and internet, but knew the theater and cabaret. Similarly, each individual has the opportunity to influence your surroundings with their words and behaviors.

The Greek society, in which the Thessalonians lived, was too liberal in your sex life, including in the temples, that promoted prostitution in honor to idols. So, for the Christian, mainly the new cast, it could be very difficult to follow the standards of God. The reader may think: "I've seen that movie. In fact, the situation in Brazil is no different. We see this with particular clarity in these days of Carnival.

However, the Christian need to stay tuned to your way of living. Your goal must always be to please God. On biblical reading, Paul recognizes that your readers were looking for that, but says that should grow in that goal. Although the fight against most be very hard, I need to be strong. Accommodate-if would be like down in the middle of the battle: it is not a rest, is to risk, and! Sometimes, caved to the pressure around us in seemingly small things, thinking that the injury-if any-will be easily recovered. However, who gives a little today easily assign some more tomorrow, to lose control.

The great ideal that Paul recommends to the Thessalonians is influencing your surroundings with your love and your irreproachable conduct, rather than being swayed by him. And that recommendation still stands to this day, are the current challenges alike or not at that time.
