Leitura Bíblica: Gênesis 22:1-19

(Abraão disse a Isaque:) Deus mesmo há de prover o cordeiro para o holocausto meu filho (Gênesis 22:8 a).

Uma das mais importantes histórias do Antigo Testamento, mesmo parecendo um inominável absurdo, é a do obediente cumprimento de Abraão à ordem de Deus para sacrificar seu amado filho Isaque. Conforme o texto que lemos hoje, Deus fez isso para colocá-lo à prova. Abraão já esperara longos 100 anos para ter apenas um filho com Sara, quando a promessa era de que ele teria uma descendência tão numerosa quanto o pó da terra (Gênesis 13:16). Na narrativa do fato, podemos destacar três aspectos:

Próximo ao local indicado por Deus, Abraão deixa ali seus dois servos, subindo apenas com o filho e os utensílios necessários ao sacrifício, e diz a eles: “Depois de adorarmos, voltaremos”.

1. Quando Isaque indaga sobre a ausência do costumeiro animal a ser dedicado a Deus, seu pai responde o que está no versículo em destaque.
2. No momento em que Abraão pega a faca para matar o filho já amarrado sobre a lenha no altar, uma voz do céu se faz ouvir, suspendendo a execução. Abraão não negara o “filho da promessa” ao Senhor, demonstrando assim que o temia acima de tudo.

Conclui-se, pois, que Abraão tinha a certeza de que Deus faria alguma coisa, pois disse voltaremos (termo no plural): ressuscitaria Isaque (Hebreus 11:19) ou providenciaria, como de fato fez, o necessário substituto. Sua obediência e fé (Hebreus 11:17) são exemplos para nós hoje.

Finalmente, Deus de fato interveio não deixando que se consumasse o holocausto, fato que confirmou sua fidelidade. Também cumpriu sua promessa de numerosa descendência com a formação do povo de Israel no qual nasceu Jesus, identificado como o “Cordeiro de Deus que tira o pecado do mundo” (João 1:29b). Ele foi enviando ao mundo para morrer em nosso lugar, assim como aquele animal tomou o lugar de Isaque.
