O passo decisivo Leitura bíblica: Lucas 7.24-33  _________________ Eu os batizo com água para arrependimento. Mas depois de mim vem alguém mais poderoso do que eu (...). Ele os batizará com o Espírito Santo e com fogo (Mateus 3.11) _________________

A declaração no versículo em destaque é de João Batista. No texto da leitura bíblica de hoje, Jesus fala do mesmo João de forma parecida: um mensageiro anunciando a chegada de alguém importante. Em outra ocasião, Jesus comparou a si mesmo com uma porta (João 10.9) – aquela que abre o acesso a Deus. Por meio de Jesus obtemos nossa reconciliação com Deus. Ao confiar nossa vida a ele, entramos aonde Deus está e passamos a conviver em amor com ele.

Juntando os dois textos, ocorre-me que, se Jesus é como a porta, João Batista foi como a maçaneta dessa porta ou, talvez, a dobradiça. A mensagem que João pregou aos judeus um pouco antes de Jesus entrar em cena foi um instrumento para abrir aquela porta pela qual precisamos entrar. Ele dizia às pessoas que deveriam arrepender-se da sua rebeldia contra Deus e, quando alguém demonstrava estar disposto a isso, ele batizava a pessoa como sinal e testemunho público de que ela tinha a sincera intenção de agora mudar de vida e passar a viver de acordo com o que Deus quisesse.

Não há dúvida de que isso era muito bom, mas o próprio João advertiu que era preciso dar um passo adiante, e que o batismo que ele ministrava não bastava - era apenas uma declaração de boas intenções, como girar a maçaneta para abrir a porta. No entanto, isto não resolve nada se não atravessarmos a porta. Foi o que muitos dos ouvintes e “fãs” de João Batista fizeram: ouvir, aplaudir, submeter-se a uma cerimônia – tudo bem, mas dar o passo decisivo e ingressar de fato numa vida com Deus, submetendo-a a Jesus, não queriam. Assim, escancararam a porta, mas ficaram do lado de fora: a porta aberta não basta – é preciso atravessá-la e passar a viver com Deus!

The statement in verse highlighted is that of John the Baptist. In the text of the biblical reading today, Jesus speaks of the same John in a similar fashion: a Messenger announcing the arrival of someone important. On another occasion, Jesus compared himself with a door (John 10.9) – one that opens access to God. Through Jesus we get our reconciliation with God. By entrusting our life, we go in where God is and live in love with him.

Joining the two texts, it occurs to me that, if Jesus is like the door, John the Baptist was how to handle this, or perhaps the door hinge. The message that John preached to the Jews just before Jesus came on the scene was an instrument to open that door for which you need to enter. He used to tell people that they should repent of their rebellion against God and, when someone showed to be willing to do so, he baptized the person as a sign and public testimony that she had the sincere intention to now change my life and live according to what God wanted.

There is no doubt that this was very good, but John himself warned that it was necessary to go a step further, and that the baptism that he ministered not sufficient-it was just a statement of good intentions, such as rotating the door handle to open the door. However, this doesn't solve anything if we don't get through the door. That's what many of the listeners and "fans" of John the Baptist did: hear, cheer, undergo a ceremony – all right, but give the decisive step and join in fact in a life with God, submitting to Jesus, they didn't want to. So, opened the door, but they stayed on the outside: the door open is not enough – you need to go through it and going to live with God!

Raio de luz Leitura bíblica: Ezequiel 20.39-44  _________________ Saberão que eu sou o Senhor quando eu tratar com vocês por amor do meu nome e não de acordo com seus caminhos maus e suas práticas perversas, ó nação de Israel. Palavra do Soberano, o Senhor. (Ezequiel 20.44) _________________

O livro de Ezequiel é bem agressivo. A maioria de suas profecias consiste em severas advertências. Todavia, esta passagem mostra como um raio de luz a paixão de Deus pelo seu povo, prometendo-lhe restauração após o exílio na Babilônia em que vivia por causa da sua impiedade.

As ameaças divinas tinham sua razão de ser. Não havia explicação senão a maldade inata no coração humano para que um povo a quem foram apresentados todos os atributos divinos em manifestações milagrosas em favor dele frequentasse os santuários pagãos para corromper-se com cultos sensuais dedicados a deuses de pau e pedra.

A frase “por amor do meu nome” é a expressão do infindável amor de Deus para conosco. Depois que Deus conduziu Israel de volta à sua terra, as promessas que Ele lhe deu por meio do profeta Ezequiel na leitura de hoje cumpriram-se plenamente com a vinda de Cristo. É por meio dele que realmente conhecemos a Deus. O amor de Deus pelo seu nome e por nós pecadores foi a causa da vinda de Cristo. Pela vitória na realização desse plano, Jesus recebeu um nome que está acima de todo nome (Filipenses 2.9). O homem jamais mereceria o que Deus fez por ele, mas isso foi feito por amor do seu nome.

Como responder a essa atitude senão da mesma forma? Tudo que fizermos, devemos fazer por amor a Ele e ao seu nome. Não há razão maior do que essa. Se Deus não nos amasse, nossos caminhos maus e nossas práticas perversas destruiriam toda a humanidade.

A manifestação do amor de Deus em Cristo é o quadro mais glorioso que se oferece aos nossos olhos.

Ray of light Bible reading: Ezekiel 20.39-44  _________________ Shall know that I am the Lord when I deal with you for my name and not according to their evil ways and wicked practices, o nation of Israel. Word of the sovereign, the Lord. (Ezekiel 20.44) _________________

The book of Ezekiel is very aggressive. Most of his prophecies consists of severe warnings. However, this passage shows how light the passion of God for his people, the promise of restoration after exile in Babylon in which he lived because of their impiety.

Divine threats had their reason for being there was no explanation or innate evil in the human heart for a people who have been presented all the divine attributes in miraculous manifestations in favor of him attending the pagan sanctuaries to corrupt with sexy cults dedicated to gods of wood and stone.

The phrase "for my name" is the expression of the never-ending love of God for us. After God led Israel back to their land, the promises he gave through the prophet Ezekiel in reading today fully complied with the coming of Christ. It is through him that we know the God. The love of God for his name and for us sinners was the cause of the coming of Christ. For the victory in the realization of this plan, Jesus received a name that is above every name (Philippians 2.9). The man deserves what God did for him, but this was done by his namesake.

How to respond to that attitude if not in the same way? Everything we do, we should do out of love for him and for his name's sake. There is no more reason than that. If God does not love us, our evil ways and wicked practices would destroy all mankind.

The manifestation of the love of God in Christ is the most glorious framework that offers to our eyes.

Justiça / Justice

Justiça Leitura bíblica: 1 João 3.7-10  _________________ O Senhor é justo em todos os seus caminhos e é bondoso em tudo o que faz (Salmo 145.17) _________________

“Se a escada não estiver apoiada na parede correta, cada degrau que subimos é um passo a mais para um lugar equivocado”. Se nossa vida não estiver apoiada na parede da justiça, podemos até subir, mas não chegaremos a um bom lugar.

“Que ninguém os engane”, diz o texto de 1 João. É um engano não dar a devida atenção à necessidade da prática de boas obras, da santidade e da justiça. Estaremos enganados se essas boas coisas se tornarem um fardo pesado para nós, chato e sem graça, e quando ao mesmo tempo somos atraídos por práticas nada louváveis, quando achamos bom o egoísmo, nos divertimos na malícia e chamamos a vingança de justiça.

O ensino do texto é claro: “Aquele que pratica a justiça é justo". Ser justo é andar em conformidade com o que é direito. Justo não é alguém que de vez em quando faz uma boa ação, ajuda um necessitado, vai à igreja. Justo é aquele que tem como prática fazer o bem. Uma busca diária de tornar seus pensamentos, decisões e palavras agradáveis a Deus.

Temos um padrão perfeito de justiça – a justiça de Deus: “Assim como Ele é justo”. É fácil ser rei com um olho só quando a terra é de cegos. Em meio a tanta corrupção e maldade, parece que até não estamos tão mal. Contudo, nosso padrão não dever ser aquilo que vemos os outros fazendo. Se assim fizermos, logo limitaremos nossa atuação. Precisamos ter Deus como padrão de justiça. Como filhos de Deus, devemos almejar sua santidade. Buscamos espelhar-nos em nosso Pai. Um bom filho, mesmo não sendo perfeito, está sempre atento ao ensino de seu pai. Ao crescer, a cada dia fica mais parecido com ele.

Grande é a nossa responsabilidade de ser perfeitos como perfeito é o nosso Pai que está nos céus. Também este é um grande privilégio dado por Deus a nós homens pecadores. O justo, embora ainda peque, não vive na prática do pecado. Precisamos rever nossas prioridades.

Justice Bible reading: 1 John 3.7-10  _________________ The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and kind in all he does (Psalm 145.17) _________________

"If the ladder is not leaning on the wall, each step climb is one step closer to a wrong place". If our life is not supported on the wall of Justice, we can even climb, but we're not going to a good place.

"No mistake", says the text of 1 John. It's a mistake not to give due attention to the need for the practice of good works, of Holiness and justice. We will be deceived if these good things become a heavy burden for us, boring and dull, and when at the same time we are drawn by nothing praiseworthy practice, when we think good selfishness, we had fun on malice and we call revenge of Justice.

The teaching of the text is clear: "he who practices righteousness is righteous". Be fair is in accordance with what is right. Fair is not someone who occasionally does a good deed, help a needy, goes to church. Fair is one that has as good practice. A daily quest to make his thoughts, decisions and nice words to God.

We have a perfect pattern of justice – the righteousness of God: "just as he is righteous." It's easy to be King with only one eye when the Earth is blind. In the midst of so much corruption and evil, it seems that until we're not so bad. However, our standard should not be what we see others doing. If we do so, we limit our activities soon. We need to have God as a standard of Justice. As children of God, we must aspire to his Holiness. We seek to mirror our Father. A good son, although not perfect, is always attentive to the teaching of his father. Growing up, every day is more like it.

Great is our responsibility of being perfect is perfect as our father in heaven. This is also a great privilege God has given us sinful men. The fair, though still small, doesn't live in the practice of sin. We need to review our priorities.

Morte / Death

A morte Leitura bíblica: 1 Coríntios 15.12-26  _________________ O último inimigo a ser destruído é a morte (1 Coríntios 15.26) _________________

Certa vez recebemos um e-mail com relato, não sei se verdadeiro ou não, mas o fato é que nos faz refletir sobre algo muito sério: fala de uma moça que foi para uma festa não bebendo bebida alcoólica, seguindo as recomendações de sua mãe, que a orientou para não beber, para depois poder dirigir seu carro. A moça estava voltando para casa quando um rapaz bêbado provocou um acidente envolvendo o carro da moça, que ficou estirada no chão, morrendo. Enquanto estava morrendo, ela ditou para um repórter presente ali as palavras de despedida para sua mãe. Aquela moça se cuidou, fez tudo certinho, mas acabou morrendo pela imprudência de outra pessoa.

A morte de alguém sempre nos surpreende. Não importa se a pessoa estava doente, desenganada dos médicos, se foi por acidente ou por outras razões. Na maioria dos casos, a morte é algo que vem muito rápido. Para quem continua vivo começa o tempo de dor, de saudade, sofrimento, tristeza etc.

Mas a morte também faz todos refletirem sobre o fato de que todos morrerão algum dia. Por mais que se tente prolongar a vida, por mais que a ciência ache curas para tantas doenças, hora mais, hora menos a pessoa morre. É inevitável! Aí vem a pergunta: se você morrer, você de fato vai passar a viver com Deus? Infelizmente, todos acham que sim, mas a verdade é que se a pessoa não tiver Jesus Cristo como Salvador e Senhor de sua vida, ela não está preparada para a morte e não terá a vida eterna ao lado de Deus. Esta preparação precisa ser feita em vida, pois após a morte não há mais jeito (Hebreus 9.27,28).

Reflita sobre a sua situação e prepare-se para o momento em que chegar a sua vez de morrer. É melhor estar preparado para a morte e viver muito do que pensar que viverá muito e morrer repentinamente e não ir para junto de Deus.

Death Bible reading: 1 Corinthians 15.12-26  _________________ The last enemy to be destroyed is death (1 Corinthians 15.26) _________________

Once we have received an email with account, I don't know if true or not, but the fact is that makes us reflect on something very serious: tells of a girl who went to a party not drinking liquor, following the recommendations of his mother, who directed not to drink, to then be able to drive your car. The girl was walking home when a boy drunk caused an accident involving the car of the girl, who was lying on the floor, dying. While he was dying, she dictated to a reporter present there the words of farewell to his mother. That girl if looked after, did everything right, but ended up dying by the recklessness of another person.

The death of someone always surprises us. It doesn't matter if the person was sick, hopeless of doctors, whether it was by accident or for other reasons. In most cases, death is something that comes very fast. For those still alive begins the time of pain, longing, sorrow, sadness etc.

But death also makes all reflect on the fact that everyone will die some day. No matter how much you try to prolong life, as much as the Science find cures for many diseases, hour, time the person dies. It is inevitable! Here comes the question: If you die, you will move on to live with God? Unfortunately, all seem to think so, but the truth is that if the person does not have Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of your life, she is not prepared for death and won't have eternal life beside God. This preparation must be done in life, because after death there is no more way (Hebrews .28 9.27).

Reflect on their situation and prepare for the moment when they get their turn to die. It's better to be prepared for death and live a lot than to think that live long and die suddenly and not go to God.

Porco ou passarinho? / Pig or bird?

Porco ou passarinho? Leitura bíblica: 2 Pedro 2.20-022  _________________ Vocês foram lavados, foram santificados, foram justificados no nome do Senhor Jesus Cristo e no Espírito do nosso Deus (1 Coríntios 6.11) _________________

Quero contar uma história que ouvi de um amigo. Na fazenda, uma família tirou um porquinho do chiqueiro e o levou para dentro de casa. Deram um banho nele e colocaram até roupinha. Que fofura! Mas sempre que havia uma oportunidade, o porquinho ia rolar na lama. Havia lá também um passarinho. Em um de seus voos rasantes, ele esbarrou uma das asas na lama. Interessante que ele ficou desesperado e voou imediatamente até um rio para limpar aquela sujeira. Era sempre assim: toda vez que se sujava, o passarinho voava para a água. Tinha de estar limpo para sentir-se bem.

Nós também podemos comportar-nos como porcos ou passarinhos. Muitos preferem andar em caminhos tortuosos, com valores distorcidos e, como o porco, sempre correm para a sujeira. Existem também pessoas como o passarinho, que querem viver de forma honesta, sendo justos, fazendo o bem. Vez ou outra, quando caem na lama e se sujam, logo procuram se limpar e seguir em frente. Deus nos possibilita isso. Quando resolvemos segui-lo e obedecer-lhe, somos como passarinhos: por vezes cairemos na lama, na sujeira do pecado, mas logo voltaremos ao Mestre, pedindo-lhe perdão. Ele sempre nos perdoa, nos dá um banho por sua graça e nos deixa limpos novamente!

Mesmo assim, porém, alguns são passarinhos vivendo vida de porco. Vão se sujando, não se limpam e deixam que o pecado lhes tire a alegria da vida. Conhecem o bom caminho, mas acabam abandonando-o e voltando para a lama, assim como diz o provérbio citado em nossa leitura. Vale a pena refletir sobre qual é a nossa situação. O que eu sou? Um porco que corre para a lama? Um passarinho que vai se sujando e não se limpa ou um passarinho que anda limpo, sempre ansiando pela purificação?

Pig or bird? Bible reading: 2 Peter 2.20-022  _________________ You have been washed, were sanctified, were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6.11) _________________

I want to tell you a story I heard from a friend. On the farm, a family took a pig stye and took him into the House. They gave him a bath and put up clothes. That cuteness! But whenever there was an opportunity, the pig was going to roll in the mud. There was also a little bird. In one of its flybys, he bumped into one of the wings in the mud. Interesting that he was desperate and flew immediately to a river to clean up that mess. It was always like this: every time you messed up, the bird flew into the water. Had to be clean to feel good.

We can also behave like pigs or birds. Many prefer to walk in crooked paths, with distorted values and, as the pig, always go for the dirt. There are also people like the bird, who want to live honestly, being righteous, doing good. Time or another, when they fall in the mud and get dirty, immediately seek clean up and move on. God enables us to it. When we decided to follow him and obey him, we're like birds: sometimes fall in the mud, in the dirt of sin, but soon we will return to the master, asking her forgiveness. He always forgives us, gives us a bath by his grace and let us clean again!

Even so, however, some are birds living life. Will if not clean soiling and let Sin take the joy of life. Know the right path, but end up leaving him and returning to the mud, as well as the proverb quoted in our reading. It is worth reflecting on what is our situation. What I am? A pig that runs into the mud? A bird that will clean or not littering and a bird that's clean, always yearning for purification?
