Os escritos do apóstolo Paulo frequentemente contrapõem aspectos positivos e negativos. Faz isso porque a vida é assim mesmo. Toda ação correta tem resultados benéficos, toda ação errada resulta em problemas.

No texto que lemos hoje, Paulo recomenda aos ricos que evitem duas coisas negativas. Primeiro, que não sejam arrogantes. A arrogância não é fruto apenas da riqueza. Conversei certa ocasião com um jovem pastor arrogante por ter estudado em um seminário que ele julgava o melhor de todos. Colocou defeito em todos os outros. Só o seminário onde estudara era bom. No entanto, a riqueza favorece a arrogância porque proporciona recursos que outros não têm. Outra atitude negativa que Paulo assinala é depositar esperança nas riquezas. Anos atrás, um Cadillac dava glamour ao proprietário, e hoje?

A seguir Paulo apresenta o positivo. Como é rica a lista! Esperança em Deus. Prática do bem, generosidade. Disposição para repartir – uma virtude rara. Muitos pensam que riqueza é apenas bem material, mas há muitas outras. Quanta riqueza um médico, um professor, um juiz, um bom pedreiro, mecânico, motorista, um chefe de família têm para repartir! Um jovem estava desanimado por dificuldades financeiras e um fora que havia recebido da namorada. Seu pastor o consolou dizendo: “Você está chorando a perda da prata, mas Deus lhe reservou o ouro!” Anos depois, lembrando-se das palavras do seu antigo pastor, cumpriu o seu sonho com um excelente casamento e realização profissional maior do que poderia ter imaginado. Despertar a fé não é distribuir riquezas?

Paulo considerava a piedade – ou seja, a atitude de levar a vida sob a direção de Deus – um grande valor, e recomenda a Timóteo que a guarde cuidadosamente – um precioso conselho para cada um de nós. (MJT)

The writings of the Apostle Paul often counteract positive and negative aspects. You do it because life is like that. Every correct action has beneficial results, every action wrong results in problems.

In the text we read today, Paul recommends the rich to avoid two negative things. First, they are not arrogant. The arrogance is not the result only of wealth. I talked once with a young shepherd arrogant to have studied in a seminary that he thought the best of all. Put in all the other defect. Only the seminar where had studied was good. However, the wealth promotes arrogance because it provides features that others don't have. Another negative attitude that Paul points out is depositing hope in wealth. Years ago, a Cadillac gave glamour to it, and today?

Then Paul presents the positive. How rich the list! Hope in God. Well, practice generosity. Willingness to share – a rare virtue. Many think that wealth is only good material, but there are many others. How much wealth a doctor, a teacher, a judge, a good Mason, a mechanic, a driver, a head of household have to share! A young man was discouraged by financial difficulties and an outside that he had received from his girlfriend. Your pastor the consoled saying: "you are crying the loss of silver, but God you booked the gold!" Years later, remembering the words of his former pastor, fulfilled his dream with an excellent wedding and professional fulfilment greater than could have ever imagined. Awakening faith is not distribute riches?

Paul considered piety – that is, the attitude of life under the direction of God – a great value, and recommends Timothy to guard carefully – a precious advice for each of us. (MJT)
