Leitura Bíblica: II Timóteo 4:9-18

Atente bem para a sua própria vida e para a doutrina, perseverando nesses deveres, pois, agindo assim, você salvará tanto a si mesmo quanto aos que o ouvem. (I Timóteo 4:16)

Você já foi abandonado por alguém? Certa vez uma pessoa me disse que, como castigo por mau comportamento, dizia ao seu neto que o devolveria aos pais que o abandonaram. Expliquei-lhe que tal castigo não era adequado, pois estava dizendo ao neto que o abandonaria do mesmo modo que fora abandonado pelos pais.

Na leitura de hoje vimos que, por diferentes motivos, Paulo foi abandonado por algumas pessoas, de modo que agora ele se encontrava sozinho na prisão. Ninguém veio ao encontro de Paulo no seu julgamento! Como ele suportou tamanha angústia e sofrimento?

A resposta se encontra no versículo em destaque: é necessário cuidar de si mesmo! Esta recomendação o próprio Paulo deu ao jovem Timóteo. Em duas situações bem semelhantes, Paulo emprega a palavra grega que significa reter, atender ou cuidar no versículo em destaque e em Filipenses 2:16. “…retendo firmemente a palavra da vida”. Observe a conexão que há entre “reter a Palavra/ cuidar da doutrina” e a salvação (a reconciliação com Deus). Aqueles que se mantêm ligados à Palavra de Deus, a doutrina viva, alcançam a sua própria salvação e também a das pessoas ao seu redor! Não significa que tenhamos o poder de nos salvar, pois sabemos que isto só Deus pode – graças à morte de Cristo na cruz. Mas somos usados como instrumentos de Deus para a salvação de pessoas e nós mesmos somos alvo da graça de Deus em Cristo quando nos submetemos à Palavra da vida que produz a fé.

Mesmo na prisão, Paulo sabe que está sob o cuidado de Deus, mas também que precisa cuidar de si mesmo. E assim pede a Timóteo que traga os livros e pergaminhos (naquela época a Bíblia ainda era um conjunto de escritos avulsos) para que possa nutrir sua fé em Jesus e permanecer firme apesar das circunstâncias difíceis que enfrentava. – AS

Mesmo abandonados, nunca estaremos sós se nos mantivermos ligados a Deus por meio de sua Palavra.

Take care

Bible reading: 2 Timothy 4: 9-18

Watch out for your own life and doctrine, to persevere in these duties, because, by doing so, you will save both yourself and those who hear. (1 Timothy 4:16)

Have you ever been abandoned by someone? A person once told me that, as punishment for bad behavior, said to his grandson that would return to parents who left. I explained that such punishment was not appropriate, because it was saying to the grandson that would similarly abandoned by parents who had.

In reading today we saw that, for different reasons, Paul was abandoned by some people, so that now he was alone in prison. No one came to meet Paul on your trial! As he endured such distress and suffering?

The answer is found in verse highlighted: it is necessary to take care of yourself! This recommendation Paul himself gave the young Timothy. In two situations well, Paul uses the Greek word which means retaining, answer or caring in the verse highlighted and in Philippians 2:16. "... holding firmly the word of life". Note the connection between "retain the word/take care of doctrine" and salvation (reconciliation with God). Those who remain attached to the word of God, the doctrine, reach their own salvation and that of the people around you! Does not mean that we have the power to save us, because we know that only God can-thanks to the death of Christ on the cross. But we are used as instruments of God for the salvation of people and we ourselves are targeted by the grace of God in Christ when we submitted to the word of life that produces faith.

Even in prison, Paul knows he is under the care of God, but also need to take care of yourself. And so asks Timothy to bring books and scrolls (at that time the Bible was still a set of broadsides written) so you can nourish your faith in Jesus and remain firm despite the difficult circumstances it faced. -(AS)

Even abandoned, never will be alone if we keep us connected to God through his word.

A única saída / The only way out

Leitura Bíblica: Amós 5:1-6

O Senhor [disse] à nação de Israel: Busquem-me e terão vida. (Amós 5:4)

Vivemos numa época de muitas aflições e circunstâncias adversas. Muitos países têm dificuldades econômicas ou estão seriamente corrompidos, e os costumes tornam-se cada vez mais permissivos. O ser humano, não raras vezes, é tratado como se fosse um animal. A inquietação alcança todos os povos – uns por causa do desemprego e da pobreza, outros pelas repetidas tragédias naturais e pela fome, ou ainda devido à violência. Que fazer?

No texto que lemos hoje, vemos que a situação de Israel não era muito diferente da vivida pela sociedade atual. Muitos não queriam ter um relacionamento com Deus nem obedecer às suas leis. Mas Deus estava ciente de tudo o que acontecia e continuava interessado em seu povo. Diante do castigo iminente, Ele ainda oferece mais uma chance aos israelitas (suas palavras estão registradas no versículo em destaque). Ainda havia uma saída!

Da mesma forma que aquele povo, as pessoas que vivem hoje como se Deus não existisse pensam que estão em boa situação. Porém, se elas não se arrependerem e buscarem ao Senhor, seu fim será desastroso. Quando o castigo resultante da desobediência a Deus vier, não haverá ninguém que possa ajudar (veja o final do versículo 6). Observe a história da humanidade e veja o fim que tiveram muitos personagens poderosos mas que não buscaram a Deus enquanto viviam. Ocupavam postos de grande importância, mas na hora de suas mortes aqueles que os cercavam nada puderam fazer. Certa vez visitei dois rapazes num hospital. Eles estavam muito doentes, já em fase terminal. Pude orar por eles e falar do grande amor de Deus ao enviar Jesus Cristo para morrer numa cruz em nosso lugar e, com isso, nos dar vida eterna. Mesmo vivendo dias tão difíceis, eles compreenderam que ainda havia uma saída: buscar ao Senhor. Faça o mesmo e encontre a vida verdadeira em Jesus! – MJT

Quem busca ao Senhor recebe dele a vida completa agora e na eternidade.

The only way out

Bible reading: Amos 5: 1-6

The Lord [said] to the nation of Israel: Seek me and will have life. (Amos 5: 4)

We live in an age of many afflictions and adverse circumstances. Many countries have economic difficulties or are seriously corrupted, and the costumes become increasingly permissive. Human beings often is treated as if it were an animal. The concern reaches all peoples-some because of unemployment and poverty, others by repeated natural disasters and famine, or due to violence. What to do?

In the text we read today, we see that the situation of Israel was not very different from that experienced by current society. Many did not want to have a relationship with God or obey his laws. But God was aware of everything that was happening and was interested in its people. Before the impending doom, it still offers one more chance to the Israelites (his words are recorded in verse headlines). There was still a way out!

In the same way that the people, the people who today live as if God did not exist think they are in a good situation. However, if they do not repent and seek the Lord, your order will be disastrous. When the resulting punishment of disobedience to God comes, there will be no one who can help (see the end of verse 6). Note the history of mankind and see the order that had many powerful characters but not sought the God while living. Occupied very important posts, but at the time of their deaths those that surrounded anything might do. I once visited two boys in a hospital. They were very ill, already in terminal phase. I pray for them and talk about the great love of God to send Jesus Christ to die on the cross in our place and give us eternal life. Even living days so hard, they realized that there was still a way out: seek the Lord. Do the same and find true life in Jesus! –(MJT)

Persistir / Persist

Leitura Bíblica: II Reis 5:1-14

Seja fiel até a morte, e eu lhe darei a coroa da vida. (Apocalipse 2:10b)

Certa vez fui a um médico por causa de alguns incômodos que vinha sentindo. Ele me receitou certo antibiótico e mandou-me toma-lo por sete dias consecutivos, sem interrupções. Tomei a medicação por três dias e parei o tratamento, voltando a ele reclamando que não tinha melhorado. Ele se assustou e me perguntou se eu tinha tomado o remédio direito. Respondi que não, porque não estava sentindo melhoras. O médico me advertiu, dizendo que eu não deveria parar o tratamento por minha conta, pois poderia acabar prejudicando minha saúde. Se depois do prazo estabelecido por ele não houvesse melhoras, teria de aumentar a dose e o tempo do uso do medicamento, ou trocar de remédio. Voltei a tomar o mesmo remédio corretamente, e no sexto dia já me sentia bem melhor.

Muitas vezes a ansiedade atrapalha nossos objetivos porque queremos a resposta imediatamente, mas frequentemente não é assim que funciona: temos de ser persistentes.

No texto de hoje lemos a história maravilhosa de cura de um oficial portador de lepra. O Senhor usou o profeta Eliseu para curá-lo, mandando-o mergulhar sete vezes no rio Jordão. Ele obedeceu e foi curado da doença. É claro que o principal na atitude dele foi a humildade com que recebeu aquela instrução nada simpática. Foi difícil, tanto que no primeiro momento ele se revoltou contra aquilo. Entretanto, sua persistência também foi importante. Já imaginou se ele imergisse na água somente seis vezes? Nossa obediência às instruções de Deus precisa ser completa ou nada valerá. A persistência – ou fidelidade – é um elemento importante para vencer nossos obstáculos e não parar no meio do caminho. Imagino que muitas vezes Deus nos força a “mergulhar” mais vezes para não nos acomodarmos e também para exercitarmos a nossa fé. – (ETS)

Persist

Bible reading: 2 Kings 5: 1-14

Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the Crown of life. (Revelation 2:10 b)

I once went to a doctor because of some annoyances that feeling. He prescribed me some antibiotics and sent me takes it for seven consecutive days, without interruptions. I took the medication for three days and I stopped the treatment, returning to him complaining that had not improved. He got scared and asked me if I had taken the right remedy. I said no, because I wasn't feeling well. The doctor warned me, saying that I should not stop treatment by my account, because it could end up hurting my health. If after the time limit set for him there were no improvements, would have to increase the dose and time of use of the product, or change of remedy. I take the same remedy correctly, and on the sixth day I felt much better.

Often the anxiety disrupts our goals because we want the answer immediately, but often is not how it works: we must be persistent.

In today's text read the wonderful story of a cure with leprosy. The Lord used the Prophet Elisha to cure it, sending it plunging seven times in the Jordan River. He obeyed and was cured of the disease. It is clear that the main in his attitude was the humility with which received that instruction No. It was difficult, so much so that at first he rebelled against it. However, their persistence also was important. Ever wondered if it dive in water only six times? Our obedience to the instructions of God needs to be complete or nothing is. Persistence-or fidelity-is an important element to overcome our obstacles and don't stop in the middle of the road. I imagine that God often forces us to "plunge" more times for not settling and we exercise our faith. -(ETS)

Esmolas / Alms

Leitura Bíblica: Atos 3:1-10

[O Senhor] é capaz de fazer infinitamente mais do que tudo o que pedimos ou pensamentos, de acordo com o seu poder que atua em nós. (Efésios 3:20)

Certa vez, orei a Deus por meu futuro marido, pedindo que ele fosse um cristão fiel e espiritualmente maduro. Observando os rumos que minha vida tomava, este parecia ser um pedido segundo a vontade de Deus. Pouco tempo depois, conheci um rapaz que chamou minha atenção. Começamos a namorar dois meses depois de ele entregar sua vida a Cristo, e mais tarde nos casamos. Deus foi bondoso e atendeu meu pedido – em parte: meu marido é um cristão fiel e dedicado ao Senhor. Ao mesmo tempo, foi bom acompanhar seu crescimento na fé e aprender com ele sobre a vida com Deus. O Senhor não deu exatamente o que eu pedi, mas seu presente foi, com certeza, muito melhor!

Lembrei disso ao ler o texto de hoje. O aleijado pediu esmolas, mas recebeu algo muito melhor: a cura. Com certeza, a ajuda financeira era importante para ele, já que sua deficiência física o impedia de trabalhar e ele dependia dos outros para sobreviver. Se Pedro e João tivessem lhe dado algumas moedas, ele ficaria satisfeito. Eles não fizeram o que o homem esperava, mas lhe deram algo muito mais precioso. Por meio deles, Deus curou o aleijado. Se ele tivesse recebido apenas as esmolas que pedira, não teria desfrutado a nova vida que lhe foi dada. Agradecido, passou a adorar a Deus e demonstrava a todos sua felicidade.

Muitas vezes, pedimos ao Pai algo que pensamos ser muito importante e necessário, esquecendo que os planos Dele são sempre melhores que nossos projetos imperfeitos. Às veze, Ele dá o que pedimos, conforme sua vontade e propósito. Porém, não devemos reclamar se Ele não fizer isso. Como diz o versículo em destaque, Deus pode fazer infinitamente mais do que esperamos. Ele nos dá o que realmente precisamos e nos surpreende com sua imensa bondade e generosidade. – (VWR)

A esmola ajuda no momento, mas o que Deus dá transforma nossa vida.

Alms

Bible reading: Acts 3: 1-10

[The Lord] is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or thoughts, according to his power that works in us. (Ephesians 3:20)

I once prayed to God for my future husband, asking him to be a faithful Christian and spiritually mature. Noting the direction that my life was taking, this seemed to be a request according to the will of God. Shortly after, I met a guy that caught my eye. We started dating two months after he give his life to Christ, and later we got married. God has been kind and answered my request – in part: my husband is a Christian faithful and dedicated to the Lord. At the same time, it was nice to accompany your growth in faith and learn from him about life with God. The Lord did not exactly what I ordered, but his gift was, of course, much better!

I was reminded of this while reading the text. The crippled asked alms, but received something much better: the cure. Certainly, the financial assistance was important to him because his disability prevented him from working and he depended on others to survive. If Peter and John had given her some coins, he'd be pleased. They did what the man had hoped, but gave him something far more precious. Through them, God healed the cripple. If he had received only the alms which had asked, he would not have enjoyed the new life you have been given. Thankful, went to worship God and demonstrated all their happiness.

Many times, we ask the Father something that we think is very important and necessary, forgetting that His plans are always better that our imperfect projects. At times, He gives what we asked, according to his will and purpose. However, we should not complain if it does not do this. As the featured verse, God can do infinitely more than we expect. He gives us what we really need and surprise us with his immense kindness and generosity. -(VWR)
