Não é por causa de sua justiça
ou de sua retidão que você conquistará a terra delas. Mas é por causa da
maldade destas nações que o Senhor, o seu Deus, as expulsará de diante de você,
para cumprir a palavra que o Senhor prometeu, sob juramento, aos seus
antepassados Abraão, Isaque e Jacó (Deuteronômio 9:5).
Todos os
dias Deus demonstra seu amor por nós. Estamos vivos, e só isso já é motivo para
agradecer. Porém, podemos acostumar-nos a receber coisas boas e esquecer de
glorificá-lo por isso. De igual modo, Israel contava com a presença e atuação
diária do Senhor. Em Deuteronômio, Moisés lembra à nova geração o que Deus
fizera e ainda faria por seu povo. Diante de tudo que haviam recebido e daquilo
que ainda viria, a nação escolhida poderia pensar que ela mesma fosse muito boa
e, por isso, digna do auxílio divino. Se assim acontecesse, jamais seria
agradecida. Contudo, para evitar essa situação, Moisés diz qual era o motivo de
Deus ser tão generoso com eles. Afinal, como o texto que lemos hoje deixa
claro, aquele povo não era bom, antes teimoso.
Não seria
por merecimento que Israel passaria a possuir a terra, mas porque fora
prometida por Deus (versículo 4-5). O princípio expressado aqui é que o motivo
de recebermos algo é aquele que dá. Deus promete e cumpre, pois é fiel.
Conosco Ele
age da mesma forma. O que recebermos dele não é por merecimento nosso, mas por
Ele ter prometido e por que nos ama. Ele disse que viria para nos dar vida
eterna, e este veio. Também prometeu que nos daria o necessário para nossa
sobrevivência, e assim faz. Jesus disse que estaria conosco, e sempre está.
Portanto, seja agradecido – afinal, Deus cumpre suas promessas não por sermos
bons, mas porque Ele é fiel. Nisto podemos confiar. Mesmo quando agimos de
maneira indigna, temos o que comer, vestir e onde morar. Deus não depende do
nosso merecimento, antes o Senhor é fiel a Ele mesmo. Então, glorifique ao

Nada
merecemos, mas Deus nos ama mesmo assim porque é absolutamente bom!
Who is good?
It is not
because of your righteousness or your righteousness that you conquer the Earth.
But it is because of the wickedness of these Nations that the Lord your God, he
shall cast out from before you, to fulfill the word which the Lord promised
under oath to their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Deuteronomy 9: 5).
Every day God demonstrates his
love for us. We are alive, and that alone is reason to thank. However, we can
become accustomed to receive good things and forget to glorify him for it.
Similarly, Israel relied on the presence and actions of the Lord daily. In
Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the new generation what God did and still do for his
people. In the face of all who had received and what still come, the chosen
nation might think she was very good and therefore worthy of divine aid. If
that happened, would never be grateful. However, to avoid this situation, Moses
says what was the reason of God be so generous with them. After all, as the
text we read today makes clear, the people wasn't good before stubborn.
It would not be for deserving
that Israel would possess the land, but because out promised by God (verse
4-5). The principle expressed here is that the reason we receive something is
the one who gives. God promises and meets as it is faithful.
With us He acts the same way.
What we get from him is not by our worthiness but because he promised and who
loves us. He said he would come to give us eternal life, and this came up. Also
promised that he would give us the necessary for our survival, and so does.
Jesus said that he would be with us, and always is. So be grateful – after all,
God fulfills his promises not to be good, but because he is faithful. In this
we can trust. Even when we act in a manner unworthy, have what to eat, dress
and where to live. God does not depend on our worthiness, before the Lord is

Nothing we deserve, but God
loves us anyway because it is quite good!
