Deus dirige

Mais uma vez os
israelitas fizeram o que Deus reprova, e por isso o Senhor deu a Eglom, rei
de Moabe, poder sobre Israel (Juízes 3.12).

Em Juízes 3.8
lemos a mesma coisa como no versículo em destaque, ou seja: “O Senhor os
entregou nas mãos de…”. Neste episódio o Senhor deu ao rei de Moabe poder sobre
Israel. A primeira cidade que Deus entregou nas mãos dos israelitas foi Jericó,
e agora Deus entrega Jericó (a “cidade das palmeiras”) nas mãos dos moabitas.
Lembra-nos o que disse Jó, na hora da aflição, “O Senhor o deu, o Senhor o
levou” (Jó 1.21). Quando o mal nos atinge, a primeira coisa de que
deveríamos lembrar-nos é que Deus está no controle. Assim, também o verso 29
diz inversamente que “nem um só homem (dos moabitas) escapou”. Da ação de Deus
ninguém escapa, seja para bênção ou para punição. Tudo está em suas mãos. Tudo
está sob o seu controle. Este episódio tem uma particularidade. Eúde era
canhoto. O que era desvantagem tornou-se vantagem nas mãos de Deus. No tempo
das espadas, ninguém tirava os olhos da mão direita dos inimigos.
As ações de
Deus sobre seus servos sempre têm fins didáticos. Ele conduz tudo a favor do
nosso crescimento espiritual. Deus usa pequeninas coisas para nos mostrar seu
poder. Eúde pertencia à menor das tribos de Israel. Eúde era canhoto (que
detalhe Deus usou!), Eglom era extraordinariamente gordo (sua gordura escondeu
uma espada de 45 centímetros!), e a suposição dos seus servos de que ele estava
esvaziando o ventre permitiu a Eúde fugir. Deus tem controle até dos detalhes.
O texto
termina dizendo que, graças à ação de Eúde, Israel teve paz durante oitenta
anos. Sempre e sempre o Senhor mostra misericórdia sobre seus filhos e os livra
do mal no momento apropriado, embora não os dispense de passar pelo sofrimento
que eles próprios causam por afastar-se de Deus e desobedecer às suas
instruções.

Once
again the Israelites did what God rebukes, and so the Lord gave Eglon, King
of Moab power over Israel (Judges 3.12).

In
Judges 3.8 read the same thing as in the verse, namely: "the Lord
delivered them into the hands of ...". In this episode the Lord gave to
the King of Moab power over Israel. The first city that God gave the Israelites
was Jericho, and now God delivers Jericho (the "city of Palm trees")
at the hands of the Moabites. It reminds us what did Job, in time of distress,
"the Lord gave and the Lord took him" (job 1.21). When evil reaches
us, the first thing that we should remember is that God is in control. Thus,
also the verse 29 says conversely that "not a single man (of the Moabites)
escaped". The action of God no one escapes, is for blessing or punishment.
Everything is in your hands. Everything is under your control. This episode has
a particularity. Ehud was left-handed. What was a disadvantage became an
advantage in the hands of God. At the time of the swords, nobody take his eyes
off the right hand of the enemies.
The
actions of God on his servants always have educational purposes. He leads all
in favour of our spiritual growth. God uses tiny things to show us his power.
Ehud belonged to the smallest of the tribes of Israel. Ehud was left-handed
(which detail God used!), Eglon was extraordinarily fat (FAT hid a 45 cm!), and
the assumption of his servants that he was emptying the womb allowed Ehud
escape. God has control to the details.
The
text concludes by saying that, thanks to the action of Ehud, Israel had peace for
80 years. And the Lord show mercy on their children and free of evil at the
appropriate time, though not the dispense to go through the suffering that they
cause themselves by moving away from God and disobey his instructions.
