Água Viva

No início do capítulo 7 de João lemos que
Jesus subiu a Jerusalém para participar da Festa das Cabanas (versos 2, 14),
também conhecida como “festa dos tabernáculos”. Era uma celebração anual de
gratidão a Deus pelos frutos colhidos (uvas, figos, trigo, cevada, etc.) no ano
que passara, de forma especial pela chuva que receberam, sem a qual nada se
teria produzido. Em Zacarias 14.16-19 parece haver uma referência muito direta
à ligação da chuva com a festa das cabanas.
Na época de Jesus, a festa tinha a intenção de
reconhecer a bondade de Deus que enviava a chuva todos os anos. Nos primeiros
sete dias da festa, os sacerdotes desciam até o tanque de Siloé, enchiam ali
uma jarra dourada com água e a traziam numa espécie de procissão solene até o
templo. Ali, ao som de músicas e de um coro (que provavelmente recitava os Salmos
113 a 118), a água era derramada em vasilhas de prata fixadas no altar. Era uma
festa fantástica.
Comentaristas bíblicos afirmam que no oitavo dia (o
último da festa), essa cerimônia não era realizada e que nesse dia, somente era
feita uma oração pedindo chuvas. Se isto for realidade, a informação de João de
que “Jesus se levantou no último e mais importante dia da festa” torna-se ainda
mais relevante. Quando não havia mais água para ser derramada sobre o altar,
Jesus se apresenta como aquele podia suprir todas as necessidades: “Se alguém
tem sede, venha a mim e beba” (verso 37).
Jesus também deixa claro que não apenas podia
suprir as necessidades básicas, como a chuva para todo o ano, mas podia fazer
“fluir rios de água viva” (verso 38). Esta afirmação é muito mais impactante
quando lembramos que a região de Israel é na sua maior parte desértica.
O que era necessário para isso? Nas palavras de
Jesus, parece ser muito simples: “Quem crer em mim”. O ritual religioso dos
judeus não era suficiente; era necessário crer em Jesus.

Living Water

At
the beginning of Chapter 7 John we read that Jesus went up to Jerusalem to participate in the Festival
of Huts (verses 2, 14), also known as "feast of Tabernacles". It was
an annual celebration of gratitude to God for harvested fruits (grapes, figs,
wheat, barley, etc.) in the year that had passed, in a special way by the rain
that received, without which nothing would have produced. In Zechariah 14.16-19
there seems to be a very direct reference to call the rain with the Festival of
huts.
At the time of Jesus, the party was intended to recognize the goodness
of God that sent rain every year. In the first seven days of the feast, the
priests come down until the tank of Siloam, a golden jar filled with water and
brought in a kind of solemn procession to the temple. There, the sound of music
and a choir (which probably recited the Psalms 113 to 118), water was poured
into silver canisters fixed on the altar. It was a fantastic party.
Biblical commentators claim that on the eighth day (the last of the
party), this ceremony was not held and that only that day was made a prayer
asking for rains. If this is reality, information of John that Jesus rose in
the last and most important feast day "becomes even more relevant. When
there was no more water to be poured on the altar, Jesus is presented as that
could meet all needs: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and
drink" (verse 37).
Jesus also makes it clear that not only could meet the basic needs, how
rain for the entire year, but it could do "flow rivers of living
water" (verse 38). This statement is more striking when we remember that
the region of Israel is mostly desert.
What was necessary for that? In the words of Jesus, appears to be very
simple: "Who believe in me." The religious ritual of the Jews was not
enough; It was necessary to believe in Jesus.
