Mesmo que muitas pessoas vivam como se Deus não existisse, ele demonstra
seu controle sobre todo o Universo. Os israelitas tinham trocado o Deus
verdadeiro por um ídolo. Quando tudo ia bem, pensaram que não precisavam mais
de Deus e escolheram seguir seus próprios caminhos, pois confiavam em sua
própria força (verso 13b). Criaram seu próprio deus e desprezaram o amor e as
leis do Senhor, buscando ser como as outras nações até na questão da idolatria.
Hoje, muitos fazem o mesmo. Talvez não tenham imagens de bezerros para adorar,
mas há outros deuses em sua vida. Fazem “o que todo mundo faz” como se não
houvesse consequências, e sem parar para refletir se aquilo é certo ou errado.
Porém, Deus está atento. Mesmo amando tanto a Israel (veja Oseias 11), ele não
podia relevar a infidelidade do povo. Eles confiavam em si mesmos e na imagem –
e todos seriam punidos. Até o ídolo seria levado ao exílio, demonstrando que
Deus é muito superior a qualquer deus que o homem possa criar. Pior, os
israelitas chorariam mais pelo destino de sua amada imagem do que por ter
desagradado a Deus! Temeriam mais por um objeto do que por eles mesmos. Como
estavam cegos! De tão apegados a um pedaço de madeira não conseguiam
compreender sua própria situação!
Este texto nos lembra que, seja o que for que colocarmos no lugar de
Deus, também está debaixo de seu controle. Não importa o quanto eu confie em
meu “ídolo”, Deus pode fazer o que quiser com ele. Se pensarmos que não precisamos
de Deus e confiarmos em nossa própria força, colheremos os frutos de nossa
desobediência. Por isso, é bom perguntar a si mesmo com frequência: quem está
em primeiro lugar em minha vida? Em quem está minha confiança? Deus aprova
minhas atitudes? Se você perceber que não está no caminho certo, busque ao
Senhor e procure agradá-lo com sua vida! Que somente ele seja o motivo de seu
louvor!

couldn't understand their own situation.
This text reminds us that, whatever we put in the
place of God, is also under their control. No matter how much I trust my
"Idol", God can do whatever you want with it. If we think that we
don't need God and relying on our own strength, we will reap the fruits of our
disobedience. So ask yourself: who comes first in my life? Who is my
confidence? God approves of my actions? If you realize that you're not on the
right path, seek the Lord and try to please him with her life. That he alone is
the reason for your praise!
