Leitura bíblica: Malaquias 4.1-5

[Jesus disse aos discípulos:] Na casa de meu Pai há muitos aposentos; se não fosse assim, eu lhes teria dito. Vou preparar-lhes lugar (João 14.2).

Na época de Malaquias, a nação de Judá tinha voltado do cativeiro babilônico, e esperava-se que agora desfrutasse de um período de alegria e satisfação. No entanto, mais de um século depois de retornar a Canaã, parece que os israelitas tinham esquecido o que o Senhor fizera por eles. Os adversários tinham sido derrotados, o templo estava reconstruído, o culto fora restaurado por Esdras, o muro da cidade de Jerusalém, reerguido em obra feita sob o comando de Neemias. E, mesmo com todas essas bênçãos palpáveis, o povo vivia de modo que desagradava a Deus. Espiritualmente, estavam mornos e apáticos; a vida era rotineira, e o culto afrontava ao Senhor. A tarefa de Malaquias era chamar a atenção do povo, avisando-o de que seu culto não estava sendo aceito pelo Senhor por causa da sua hipocrisia. Mas, em vez de apenas adverti-los e anunciar punição, Deus mandou palavras de ânimo e encorajamento por meio de seu mensageiro. Declarou seu amor pelo povo (1.2-3) e sua aliança de vida e paz (2.4-5). Prometeu o “mensageiro da Aliança”, anunciado por um precursor (3.1; Isaías 40.3) e até mesmo prosperidade material (3.11). Confirmou que faria diferença entre os que lhe servem e os que não lhe servem (3.18).

Mas, acima de tudo, assegurou que preparava um dia muito especial, chamado ao mesmo tempo de “grande e temível” dia do Senhor. Assim como esse dia tem dois adjetivos, ele também trará apenas dois destinos possíveis ao ser humano: para os ímpios, isto é, os que não obedecem a Deus, ele será temível, pois para eles haverá somente condenação definitiva e total (verso 1). Para os que obedecem ao Senhor, será simplesmente glorioso: é o dia em que eles conhecerão a casa do Pai, na qual serão recebidos pelo próprio Jesus, seu Salvador (versículo em destaque). Qual é a sua resposta?

At the time of Malachi, the nation of Judah had returned from the Babylonian captivity, and now was expected to enjoy a period of joy and satisfaction. However, more than a century after return to Canaan, the Israelites had forgotten what the Lord had done for them. Opponents had been defeated, the temple was rebuilt, the cult out restored by Ezra, the wall of the city of Jerusalem, re-erected in work done under Nehemiah. And, even with all these tangible blessings, the people lived so that didn't like the God. Spiritually, they were warm and apathetic; life was uneventful, and the cult envisaged by Mr. The task of Malachi was to draw the attention of the people, warning you that your cult was not being accepted by the Lord because of your hypocrisy. But rather than just warn them and announce punishment, God sent words of cheer and encouragement through your Messenger. Declared your love for the people (1.2-3) and your life and peace Alliance (2.4-5). He promised the "Messenger of the Covenant", announced by a precursor (3.1; Isaiah 40.3) and even material prosperity (3.11). Confirmed that it would make a difference between those who serve and those who don't serve you (3.18).

But, above all, ensured that prepared a very special day, called at the same time of "big and dreaded" day of the Lord. As well as this day has two adjectives, it also will bring only two possible destinations for the human being: for the wicked, that is, those who do not obey God, he is fearful, because for them there will be definitive and total condemnation only (verse 1). For those who obey the Lord, will simply be glorious: it is the day they will know the father's House, in which will be received by Jesus himself, your Savior (verse headlines). What is your answer?
