O capítulo 9 de João relata a bela história do encontro de um cego de nascença com Jesus. A
história é ainda mais bela pelos grandes contrastes apresentados no relato.
Primeiramente,
o evangelista João faz questão de deixar claro que o homem era “cego de
nascença”. Inclusive seus pais são chamados para testemunhar sobre esta
situação. Comprovado o fato, fica claro que ele nunca havia enxergado nada.
Toda a sua vida resume-se a trevas e escuridão. Então ele é confrontado com
Jesus Cristo, aquele que desde a eternidade é a Luz do Mundo (João 8.12; 9.5).
Que contraste!

adiante, há outro choque interessante na conversa do cego com os fariseus. O
cego, que pela sua condição provavelmente não teve nenhuma instrução, é
confrontado pelos doutores da lei. Na tentativa de compreender o que aconteceu,
os homens instruídos nada souberam dizer, mas o humilde cego pode afirmar: “Uma
coisa eu sei: eu era cego e agora vejo!”. Enquanto os religiosos da época nada
tinham compreendido sobre Jesus (versos 29-30), é o cego que pode lhes garantir:
“Ele é um profeta” (verso 17).
Mas o
contraste ainda mais fascinante é quando o cego se reencontra com Jesus (verso
35). Seu problema físico ficou para trás, agora sua própria vida está em jogo.
Antes ele fora curado do seu problema de não conseguir ver as coisas do mundo;
agora ele tem a oportunidade de ser curado da sua situação de não poder ver as
coisas eternas. Ele está diante do Senhor do Universo, que criou tanto o mundo
material como o eterno. Quando Jesus o confronta, aquele que havia sido cego,
tanto física como espiritualmente, pode afirmar com alegria: “Senhor, eu creio”
(verso 38). O texto ainda informa que no mesmo momento ele adorou a Jesus.
Permita-me
fazer-lhe uma pergunta bem direta: além de ver as coisas deste mundo, você
consegue ver também as coisas eternas? Para ver e entrar na eternidade é
necessário crer e aceitar aquele que é o Eterno.

Chapter
9 of John tells the beautiful story
of the encounter of a man born blind with Jesus. The story is even more
beautiful by sharp contrasts presented in the report.
First, the evangelist John makes it clear that
the man was "born blind". Including their parents are called to
testify about this. Proven fact, it is clear that he had never enxergado
anything. Your whole life boils down to darkness and gloom. Then it is
confronted with Jesus Christ, the one who from eternity is the Light of the
World (John 8:12; 9.5). What a contrast!
Just ahead, there is another interesting clash
in the man's conversation with the Pharisees. The blind man, who by his
condition probably had no education, is confronted by the lawyers. In trying to
understand what happened, learned men had known nothing to say, but the blind can
humbly say: "One thing I know: I was blind, now I see." While the
religious of the time nothing had understood about Jesus (verses 29-30), is the
blind who can guarantee them: "He is a prophet" (verse 17).
But the contrast is even more fascinating when the
blind is reunited with Jesus (verse 35). Your physical problem is behind us,
now your life is at stake. Before he was cured of his problem of not being able
to see things in the world; now it has a chance of being cured of their
situation of not being able to see eternal things. He stands before the Lord of
the universe, who created both the material world as the eternal. When Jesus
confronts him, he who had been blind, both physically and spiritually, can say
with joy: "Lord, I believe" (verse 38). The text also states that at
the same time he worshiped Jesus.
Let me ask you a very direct question: in
addition to seeing the things of this world, you can also see eternal things?
To view and enter eternity is necessary to believe and accept that which is eternal.
