Diz a história que a rainha Vitória tinha por hábito passear anonimamente pela vizinhança
do palácio. Certa ocasião caiu uma forte chuva e a rainha procurou abrigar-se
em uma pequena casa à beira da estrada. Ao bater à porta e ser atendida por uma
camponesa, perguntou se havia um guarda-chuva que poderia lhe emprestar,
garantindo que o devolveria na primeira oportunidade. A camponesa, que não
sabia quem era a mulher, respondeu: “Tenho dois guarda-chuvas. Um é bem novo.
Este naturalmente não lhe emprestarei. Mas o velho a senhora pode levar”. A
rainha recebeu o guarda-chuva emprestado e caminhou em direção a seu palácio.
Na manhã seguinte a camponesa tomou um grande susto quando os empregados da
rainha foram devolver-lhe o guarda-chuva. Ficou inconsolável por não ter dado o
guarda-chuva novo à rainha. Sempre lamentava, dizendo: “Se eu soubesse que era
a rainha, eu teria dado o melhor”.
Quando
sabemos quem está à nossa frente ou para quem de fato estamos trabalhando,
tendemos a esforçar-nos e oferecer o melhor. É obvio que se a senhora soubesse
de quem se tratava, seu comportamento teria sido completamente diferente.
Perdeu a oportunidade de ser lembrada por seu gesto de uma forma agradável e
causar boa impressão à rainha. Observamos que ela foi infeliz com seu
comentário e ofereceu algo que não lhe era precioso. Era velho, gasto,
possivelmente com os mesmos defeitos que havia em seu coração.
Fazendo
aplicação desta história à nossa vida, podemos perguntar se nós estamos
oferecendo a Deus (nosso Rei) o que temos de melhor. Se nossos comentários têm
sido agradáveis, se temos feito diferença edificando vidas que nos
cercam. Nossos dons e talentos estão a serviço de Cristo? Imaginemos por
um instante que receberemos um visitante ilustre em nossa casa. Isto mudaria o
padrão da prestação dos nossos serviços?

The
story goes that Queen Victoria had a habit of
walking anonymously in the neighborhood of the Palace. On one occasion there
was a heavy rain and the Queen sought shelter in a small house on the side of
the road. The knock on the door and be met by a peasant girl, asked if there
was an umbrella that could lend him, ensuring that the return at the first
opportunity. The peasant girl, who didn't know who the woman was, replied,
"I have two umbrellas. One is brand new. This of course doesn't lend him.
But the old lady can take ". The Queen received the umbrella and walked
towards his palace. The next morning a peasant took a big scare when employees
of the Queen were to return him the umbrella. Was inconsolable for not having
given the new umbrella Queen. Always regretted, saying: "If I had known it
was the Queen, I would have done my best".
When
we know who's ahead or to who in fact we are working, we tend to try and offer
the best. It is obvious that if you knew who it was, their behavior would have
been completely different. Missed an opportunity to be remembered for his
gesture in a nice way and impress the Queen. We observed that she was unhappy
with his comment and offered something that was not precious. Was old, worn,
possibly with the same defects in your heart.
Making
this story to our life, we can ask whether we are offering to God (our King)
the best. If our comments have been pleasant, if we have made a difference
building lives that surround us. Our gifts and talents are at the service of
Christ? Let's imagine for a moment that we will receive a distinguished guest
in our House. This would change the pattern of the provision of our services?
