Pátria

Há historiadores que dizem
que o Brasil não foi, de fato, descoberto em 22 de abril de 1500; mas foi nessa
data que este pedaço de chão começou a longa história para tornar-se o que,
para o bem e para o mal, é hoje. O patriotismo já foi maior por aqui.
Atualmente fica reservado para a Copa do Mundo e uma ou outra manifestação política,
mas o conceito de pátria é precioso, particularmente para o cristão.
Precisamos sempre ter em
mente que somos cidadãos do Reino de Deus: nossa pátria definitiva não é aqui.
O coração de cada discípulo de Jesus deve dar prioridade aos interesses do Senhor
e permanecer voltado para a pátria celestial, sempre em prontidão para a volta
do Rei. Porém foi aqui no Brasil que, em nossa maioria, nascemos e, salvo algum
leitor residente no exterior, vivemos. E será aqui que, muito provavelmente,
passaremos o resto de nossas vidas. Precisamos ter consciência de que foi o
próprio Deus que aqui nos plantou. Seus propósitos para nossa vida e para o
mundo são bem conhecidos: a plena restauração do ser humano ao relacionamento
com o Criador.
Como deve, então, um
seguidor de Jesus equilibrar-se entre a cidadania celestial e a pátria terrena?
A leitura de hoje dá uma boa orientação (você leu?). Trata-se de um trecho do
livro do profeta Jeremias no qual o Senhor dá instruções específicas à parte do
povo de Israel que fora levada cativa para a Babilônia. Em resumo ele diz: um
dia vocês voltarão para a sua pátria verdadeira, mas por enquanto lembrem-se de
que fui eu quem os colocou aí. Assim, tratem a Babilônia como se fosse sua
pátria! Mesmo em situação de dificuldades (afinal eram cativos!), trabalhem com
empenho e procurem progredir; e não se esqueçam de orar por esse lugar que,
mesmo provisoriamente, tornou-se sua terra.

There
are historians who say that Brazil was not, in fact, discovered on April 22 of 1500;
but it was on that date that this piece of ground started the long history to
become what, for better or for worse, is today. Patriotism has been greater
here. Currently is reserved for the World Cup and one or another political
demonstration, but the concept of Homeland is precious, particularly for the
Christian.
We
must always bear in mind that we are citizens of the Kingdom of God: our
ultimate homeland is not here. The heart of every disciple of Jesus must give
priority to the interests of the Lord and remain focused on heavenly homeland,
always in readiness for the return of the King. But here in Brazil that, in our
majority, we were born and, barring some Reader resident abroad, live. And it
will be here that most likely will spend the rest of our lives. We need to be
aware that God himself planted us here. His purpose for our lives and the world
are well known: the full restoration of human beings to the relationship with
the creator.
As
it should, then, a follower of Jesus in balance between the heavenly and the
earthly homeland citizenship? Reading today gives a good guideline (you read?).
This is an excerpt from the book of the Prophet Jeremiah in which the Lord
gives specific instructions to the part of the people of Israel who had been
taken captive to Babylon. In short he says: one day you will return to your
true homeland, but for now just remember that I'm the one who put them there.
So, try Babylon as if it were your motherland! Even in situations of difficulty
(after all they were captives!), work hard and seek progress; and don't forget
to pray for this place, even provisionally, became your Earth.
