Recordo-me da sua fé não fingida,
que primeiro habitou em sua avó Lóide e em sua mãe, Eunice, e estou convencido
de que também habita em você (2 Timóteo 1.5).

Timóteo
era aluno, companheiro e colaborador do apóstolo Paulo. Em Atos e nas cartas
paulinas podemos conhecer diversos aspectos do caráter desse homem de Deus e de
sua disposição de servir. Um dos aspectos que chama a atenção sobre Timóteo é
que em nenhum lugar vemos alguma repreensão de Paulo em relação a ele. Isto
fica mais significativo quando lembramos que Paulo não tinha nenhum receio em
advertir quem quer que fosse, nem mesmo o apóstolo Pedro (Gálatas 2.11). É a
este Timóteo que Paulo escreve sua última carta, como uma espécie de testamento
espiritual, praticamente despedindo-se, pois sabia que a sua morte já estava
próxima (2Timóteo 4.6-8). Nesta carta percebemos o apreço que o líder tinha
pelo seu discípulo, elogiando a sua fé (verso 5) e intercedendo constantemente
por ele (verso 3).
Ao mencionar a fé sincera
de Timóteo, Paulo não deixa de reconhecer os instrumentos usados por Deus para
que Timóteo chegasse a esta maturidade cristã: “…fé não fingida, que primeiro
habitou em sua avó Lóide e em sua mãe, Eunice…” (verso 5).
Infelizmente não temos
outras informações sobre Lóide e Eunice. Mas, por serem mencionadas, podemos
ter certeza de que foram fundamentais no desenvolvimento de Timóteo como
cristão, pois Paulo recorda-se de bom grado também da fé delas.
Que
influência você, como mãe, está deixando na vida dos seus filhos? Que diferença
a sua fé faz na vida cristã deles? Daqui a alguns anos, quando as pessoas
comentarem sobre a vida dos seus descendentes, o que dirão a respeito da vida
deles e sobre a influência que receberam?
É Deus quem produz
efetivamente a nossa primeira criação (nascimento físico) e também a segunda
(novo nascimento espiritual). Como mãe, você tem a oportunidade única de ser um
instrumento usado por Deus para que ambas aconteçam.

I remember your faith unfeigned, which first dwelt
in your grandmother Alicia and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that
also dwells in you (2 Timothy 1.5).

Timothy was a student, companion and collaborator
of the Apostle Paul. In acts and the Pauline letters we can meet various
aspects of the character of this man of God and of your willingness to serve.
One of the aspects that calls attention to Timothy is that anywhere we see any
rebuke of Paul about him. This is more meaningful when we remember that Paul
had no fear in warn whoever it was, not even the Apostle Peter (Galatians
2.11). It's this Timothy Paul writes your last letter, as a kind of spiritual
Testament, practically saying goodbye because I knew your death was next
(2Timothy 4.6-8). In this letter we realize the appreciation that the leader
had by your disciple, praising your faith (verse 5) and to intercede constantly
for him (verse 3).
By
mentioning the sincere faith of Timothy, Paul does not cease to recognize the
tools used by God for Timothy came to this Christian maturity: "... faith
unfeigned, which first dwelt in your grandmother and your mother Alicia, Eunice
..." (verse 5).
Unfortunately
we have no other information about Dumber and Eunice. But, as mentioned, we can
be sure that were instrumental in the development of Timothy as a Christian,
because Paul remembers gladly also the faith of them.
What influence you, as a parent, you're letting in
the lives of their children? That difference to your faith do in their
Christian life? In a few years, when people comment about the lives of their
descendants, what will they say about their lives and about the influence that
they have received?
It
is God who produces effectively our first creation (physical birth) and also
the second (new spiritual birth). As a parent, you have the unique opportunity
to be an instrument used by God to which both happen.

A sincere faith is the greatest legacy that a mother can leave to your
son.
