estava morto, recuaram e fugiram (1 Samuel 17.51).

É bem conhecida a história
na qual se encaixa a leitura de hoje: a luta de Davi contra Golias, o
gigantesco guerreiro inimigo de Israel. O exército filisteu tinha um trunfo em
sua guerra contra os israelitas: um soldado de quase três metros de altura e
extremamente forte. Este homem ficou desafiando as tropas de Israel, e todo o
exército de Saul se amedrontou, causando um impasse que já durava mais de um
mês – até que Davi, ainda um rapazinho, o ouviu. Indignado com a ousadia do
guerreiro inimigo, Davi, que nem soldado era, apresentou-se corajosamente para
enfrentar o inimigo provocador. A reação de Golias diante do garoto sem roupa
de batalha e armado apenas com algumas pedras e uma atiradeira está na leitura
de hoje.
A coragem de Davi com
certeza não vinha da sua arma. Ao rei Saul ele já tinha explicado que o mesmo
Deus que o ajudava a proteger suas ovelhas contra leões e ursos também o
ajudaria a derrotar um soldado estrangeiro que ousava desafiar o Senhor dos
Exércitos. A mesma resposta ele deu ao gigante, com confiança total no Senhor.
E assim Davi conseguiu derrotar Golias – não com a arma simples que tinha
escolhido, mas com sua fé em Deus e na força dele. Tal demonstração de poder
divino do lado dos israelitas mudou completamente o rumo da história. Os
valentes filisteus, antes tão seguros de sua posição, fugiram por causa da
morte de um soldado!
Nós também enfrentamos
dificuldades que no dia a dia podem parecer gigantes indestrutíveis: egoísmo,
vícios, pensamentos impuros, preguiça, etc. Mas se confiarmos na ajuda do
Senhor e usarmos a armas que ele oferece (p.ex. a sua Palavra e a sabedoria que
vem dele) também estes problemas podem ser vencidos. Tiago dá a receita em sua
carta: “Resistam ao diabo, e ele fugirá de vocês!” (Tiago 4.7) E assim todo
serão que temos a nosso favor o Deus único e verdadeiro.

When the Philistines saw that your warrior was killed, retreated and
fled (1 Samuel 17.51).

It is well known the story in which fits the reading today: the fight of
David against Goliath, the giant Warrior enemy of Israel. The philistine army
had a trump card in your war against the Israelis: a soldier almost three meters
tall and extremely strong. This man was challenging Israel's troops, and the
whole army of Saul recoil, causing an impasse that has already lasted more than
a month-until David, still a young man, heard him. Outraged by the audacity of
the enemy Warrior, David, that no soldier was, performed bravely to face the
enemy provocateur. The reaction of Goliath on the boy naked and armed only with
a few stones and a crossbow is in reading today.
The courage of David, you're definitely not coming from your gun. When
King Saul he had already explained that the same God who helped him protect his
sheep against lions and bears also help him defeat a foreign soldier who dared
to challenge the Lord of hosts. The same answer he gave the giant, with total
trust in the Lord. And so David managed to defeat Goliath – not with the gun
that had chosen, but with your faith in God and in his strength. Such a
demonstration of divine power on the side of the Israelis completely changed
the course of history. The brave Philistines before so your insurance position,
fled because of the death of a soldier.
We also face difficulties in everyday life may seem indestructible
Giants: selfishness, addictions, impure thoughts, laziness, etc. But if we rely
on the help of the Lord and use the weapons that it offers (e.g. to your Word
and the wisdom that comes from him) also these problems can be overcome. James
gives the recipe in your letter: "Resist the devil and he will flee from
you!" (James 4.7) And so all will be that we have in our favor the one
true God.
