Senhor perguntou a Caim: “Onde está seu irmão Abel?” (Gênesis 4:9)
A pergunta
é séria. Deus poderia ter perguntado: Caim, por que você matou o seu irmão?
Todavia, o que interessa aqui não são os sentimentos de Caim e sim o convívio
com seu irmão. O que impressiona é que os dois prestam culto a Deus – e isso
acabou sendo a motivação para Caim cometer o crime. Eles se mostraram
religiosos. Deveria ter sido um impulso para viverem em paz, em harmonia, em
concórdia. Mas resultou em crime. E não é só isso: Caim até reconhece o seu
erro. Ele declara: “Meu castigo é maior do que posso suportar… serei um
fugitivo errante pelo mundo” (Gênesis 4:13-14). Mas ele não se arrepende. Chega
a ser assustador que a religiosidade, que deveria ser o terreno do amor e da
compreensão na sociedade, é chão de desavenças, intrigas, inimizades e guerras.
Por que existem tantas retaliações entre os que se consideram cristãos? No caso
de Caim, a causa estava no seu coração. E o próprio Senhor Jesus confirma isso
ao declarar: “Do interior do coração dos homens veem os maus pensamentos, as
imoralidades sexuais, os roubos, os homicídios, os adultérios, as cobiças, as
maldades, o engano, a devassidão, a inveja, a calúnia, a arrogância e a
insensatez. Todos esses males vêm de dentro e tornam o homem impuro” (Marcos
7:21-23). E os homicídios continuam em ritmo crescente. Membros de igrejas
vivem se hostilizando e acham que estão prestando um serviço a Deus. Enquanto
isso, o sangue de milhares, como o de Abel, clama da terra e Deus pergunta:
“Onde está seu irmão? É hora de dar atenção ao apelo de Isaías 55:7: “Que o
ímpio abandone o seu caminho, e o homem mau, os seus pensamentos. Volte-se ele

Religiosidade não basta.
