Leitura diária: Gênesis 1.20-23

Nove bilhões e meio de anos já se passaram, segundo a ciência. Faltam-nos apenas 500 milhões de anos para chegar ao total dos 10 bilhões de anos que a ciência dá para a história do universo e, somente agora, no "quinto dia" da criação do Senhor é que os seres viventes começarão a surgir.

Para a ciência, foi no começo do Período Cambriano, que se inicia com a Era Paleozoica, que uma variedade imensa de seres começou a encher os mares e os oceanos. Em meio às moléculas vivas, as ervas e as algas que, arrastadas entre terra firme e mares, formariam as membranas, as placas, enfim, a pele dos seres viventes das águas. Foi ali que tudo começou para a ciência, e a Bíblia nos conta assim:

"E disse Deus: Produzam as águas cardumes de seres viventes; e voem as aves acima da terra no firmamento do céu... os monstros marinhos... os seres viventes que se arrastam... segundo as suas espécies... E foi a tarde e a manhã, o dia quinto" (Gênesis 1.20-23).

Tudo isto vai acontecer, para a ciência, em cerca de 440 milhões de anos se estendendo pelas Eras Paleozoica (Períodos Cambriano, Ordoviciano, Siluriano, Devoniano, Carbonífero e Permiano) e Mesozoica (Períodos Jurássico e Cretáceo). Em nossa concepção moderna, os "monstros marinhos" seriam as grandes baleias, os leões-marinhos, os tubarões, enquanto os estudos dos fósseis nos apontam para algumas projeções desses "monstros" como o ictiossauro, cronossauro, brontossauro, os tão conhecidos dinossauros do cinema e dos livros. Tiveram eles um longo tempo de existência, mas dado o tamanho da maioria deles e a grande quantidade de alimentos que ingeriam, eles mesmos foram se extinguindo, de forma que ao final do Período Jurássico estivessem todos extintos. A natureza começava a tomar a conformação necessária e adequada para o "seu dia" mais importante.
