vigilantes, mantenham-se firmes na fé, sejam homens de coragem, sejam fortes.
Façam tudo com amor (1 Coríntios 16.13-14).

O apóstolo Paulo chegou a Corinto na sua segunda viagem missionária, por
volta do ano 50 D.C. Ali ele inicia uma igreja, para a qual mais tarde terá que
escrever cartas para passar orientações e para resolver algumas situações. Ele
escreve esta carta provavelmente no ano 54 d.C. e, ao se despedir e dar as
últimas recomendações, Paulo faz um resumo muito apropriado de atitudes que
devem fazer parte da conduta cristã.
Estejam
vigilantes. No capítulo anterior (15), Paulo havia falado
sobre morte e ressurreição e que a ressurreição de Cristo é a garantia da nossa
ressurreição futura. Esta acontecerá ao som da última trombeta (15.51-52), para
a qual todos precisamos estar preparados. Aqui vigilância é a palavra chave.
Mantenham-se
firmes na fé. Os coríntios, pelo que Paulo relata durante as
suas cartas, eram bastante instáveis, havendo entre eles inclusive muitas divisões
(3.1). A causa tanto das divisões quanto dos inúmeros problemas naquela igreja
parece ser o fato de não terem crescido e amadurecido suficientemente na sua
fé. Aqui estabilidade é a palavra chave.
Sejam homens
de coragem, sejam
fortes. Diante das dificuldades, problemas e lutas da vida, a
recomendação de Paulo aos cristãos é que enfrentem tudo com coragem e força. É
claro que esta força não é nossa, mas vem única e exclusivamente de Deus. Aqui
ousadia é a palavra chave.
Façam tudo
com amor. Nada terá valor algum se não for feito com amor.
O capítulo 13 é uma bela demonstração disso. Nem dons, nem mistérios e nem
conhecimento... “Se não tiver amor, nada serei” (13.2,3). Aqui amabilidade é a
palavra chave.
Acredito que estas
mesmas recomendações são apropriadas também em nossos dias. Estas mesmas
virtudes espera-se de cada um de nós: vigilância, estabilidade, ousadia e
amabilidade.

The Apostle Paul came the
Corinth on his second missionary journey, around the year 50 A.d. There he starts
a church, to which later will have to write letters to pass guidelines and to
resolve some situations. He writes this letter probably in the year 54 ad and,
to say goodbye and give the latest recommendations, Paul makes a very
appropriate summary of attitudes that should be part of Christian conduct.
Be vigilant .
In the previous chapter (15),
Paul had talked about death and resurrection and that Christ's resurrection is
the guarantee of our resurrection. This will happen to sound the last trumpet
(15.51-52), for which we all need to be prepared. Surveillance is the key word
here.
Stand firm in the
faith . The
Corinthians, by Paul reports during your letters, were quite unstable, having
between them including many divisions (3.1). The cause of both the divisions
and the numerous problems that the Church seems to be the fact that they have
not grown and matured sufficiently in their faith. Stability is the key word
here.
Be men of courage ,
be strong. On the difficulties, problems and struggles of
life, the recommendation of Paul to the Christians is facing it with courage
and strength. Of course this is not our strength, but it comes only from God.
Boldness is the key word here.
Do everything with
love . Nothing
will have some value if it is not done with love. Chapter 13 is a beautiful
demonstration of that. Neither gifts nor mysteries and neither knowledge.
"If I have no love, nothing will be" (13.2,3). Kindness is the key
word here.
I
believe these same recommendations are appropriate also in our days. These same
virtues expected of each one of us: surveillance, stability, boldness and
kindness.
