Deus
passou ao profeta Ezequiel um recado para o seu
povo, os israelitas, e alertou-o desde logo que seria mal recebido. Ainda assim
deveria ir e falar. Deus mesmo o protegeria contra a reação hostil do povo.
Deus diz a Ezequiel que o tornará duro e inflexível como os seus ouvintes. Se
Deus não endurecesse Ezequiel, ele se acovardaria. O apóstolo Paulo é um
exemplo semelhante. Se Deus não o tornasse resistente, ele teria desistido de
pregar, tanta rejeição houve e tanto sofrimento ele passou. Este texto contém
um aviso importante para nós, os cristãos de hoje. Há em torno de nós um mundo
de gente precisando ouvir os recados de Deus, e é muito fácil nos isolarmos
desse povo, recusando-nos a nos identificar com nossos semelhantes.
Os
primeiros cristãos eram em grande parte escravos. Sua posição era, portanto,
muito mais desfavorável que a nossa. No entanto, o caráter cristão deles era
tão firme que os seus senhores não puderam deixar de admirá-los e ouvi-los e de
ser conquistados para uma vida transformada por Cristo. Ezequiel tivera uma
visão da glória de Deus. Então, ao observar o seu povo, ficou irado e
amargurado, pensando: como essa gente pode desprezar tamanha bênção?
Identifiquei-me com Ezequiel dias atrás, pregando o amor de Deus na
Cracolândia. Ninguém se interessou pela mensagem de Deus! Fui, porém, consolado
ao lembrar-me de que, se Ezequiel ficou derrubado, porque eu não posso ficar?
Deus quer
que nos identifiquemos com os que nos rodeiam, sejam quem forem – nossos irmãos
e amigos, mas também aquelas pessoas tão diferentes de nós, de que não
gostamos. Que tal identificar-se com José, perdoando seus irmãos que o traíram
(Gênesis 50.20)? Ou aceitando que Deus me identifique com meus irmãos, como fez
com Pedro quando lhe mostrou que não era melhor que seus companheiros (Lucas
22.31-34)?
Cristo,
nosso maior exemplo, identificou-se conosco!

God went to the prophet Ezekiel a
message to his people, the Israelites, and warned him that it would be poorly
received. Still should go and talk to. Even God would protect him against the
hostile reaction of the people. God tells Ezekiel to make hard and inflexible
as his listeners. If God does not harden, Ezekiel, he if bullying. The Apostle
Paul is a similar example. If God don't become resistant, he would have given
up preaching, so there was rejection and so much suffering he went through.
This text contains an important notice for us, Christians of today. There are
around us a world of people need to hear messages from God, and it is very easy
to isolate these people, refusing us to identify ourselves with our fellow
human beings.
The
first Christians were largely slaves. His position was, therefore, much more
unfavourable than ours. However, the Christian character of them was so tight
that their masters could not help but admire them and listen to them and to be
conquered for a life transformed by Christ. Ezekiel had a vision of the glory
of God. So, when looking at your people, was angry and bitter, thinking: How
can these people despise such blessing? I identified with Ezekiel days ago,
preaching the love of God in Cracolândia. No one was interested by the message
of God. I was consoled, however, to remember that if Ezekiel was overthrown,
why can't I stay?
God
wants us to identify ourselves with those around us, whoever they are-our
brothers and friends, but also those people so different from us that we don't
like. How about identifying with José, forgiving his brothers who betrayed him
(Genesis 50.20)? Or accepting that God I identify with my brothers, as he did
with Pedro when he showed that was no better than his companions (Luke
22.31-34)?
Christ,
our greatest example, identified with us!
