Leitura bíblica: Obadias 1.1,10-14

Você não deveria ter tido misericórdia do seu conservo como eu tive de você? (Mateus 18.33).

Deus quer que nossas vidas, motivações, atitudes e reações estejam de acordo com o seu padrão. Sendo Deus santo, devemos ser santos; sendo ele misericordioso e perdoador, é nossa obrigação agir da mesma forma. Quando somos insensíveis com o sofrimento alheio, agimos como Edom. O profeta menciona um evento ocorrido provavelmente nos dias do rei Jeorão, quando Jerusalém foi atacada por inimigos que tomaram a cidade e levaram muitos judeus cativos. Mas os edomitas (descendentes de Esaú e portanto parentes dos israelitas) não cumpriram o mandamento da consciência moral e o “dever de sangue” de proteger o povo irmão. Antes, aproveitaram-se das circunstâncias e comportaram-se como os agressores, saqueando também os seus irmãos que sofriam.

Por meio do profeta, Deus adverte que falta de misericórdia com o abatido resulta no juízo divino contra o insensível. Esta insensibilidade pode mostrar-se de três formas. O v 10 diz que a ação de Edom foi uma violência. Tomar partido dos inimigos de Israel equivalia a executar pessoalmente a matança. Já no v 11 os edomitas são acusados de ignorar o sofrimento de Jerusalém para tirar proveito próprio. A insensibilidade se manifesta também neste desprezo pelas dificuldades do próximo. Por fim, a mensagem de Deus declara que a insensibilidade também se iguala à soberba. Nos versos 12-14, orgulho e arrogância são características próprias daqueles que não se sensibilizam com o sofrimento alheio.

No contexto do versículo em destaque, Jesus conta uma parábola em que um servo não consegue passar adiante a grande compaixão que recebeu de seu senhor. Assim, a lição de Obadias e também a parábola de Jesus nos encorajam a sermos compassivos, sensíveis e humildes, fazendo sempre o melhor pelos que sofrem e são necessitados. Afinal, é assim que Deus age conosco.

You shouldn't have had the mercy of your fellow servant just as I had on you? (Matthew 18.33).

God wants our lives, motivations, attitudes and reactions are consistent with your pattern. Being holy God, we must be Holy; though he is merciful and forgiving, it is our duty to act in the same way. When we are insensitive to the suffering of others, we act as Edom. The Prophet mentions an event probably occurred in the days of King Jehoram, when Jerusalem was attacked by enemies who took the city and led many Jewish captives. But the edomites (descendants of Esau and so relatives of the children of Israel) have not fulfilled the commandment of the moral conscience and the "duty" to protect the brother people. Before, took advantage of the circumstances and behaved as the aggressors, looting their suffering brothers.

Through the Prophet, God warns that lack of mercy with the down results in divine judgment against the insensitive. This insensitivity may show itself in three ways. The v 10 says that the action of Edom was a violence. Take advantage of the enemies of Israel amounted to perform personally. Already in v 11 the edomites are accused of ignoring the suffering of Jerusalem to take advantage. The insensitivity is manifested also in contempt by the difficulties of the next. Finally, the message of God declares that the insensitivity also equals to superb. In verses 12-14, pride and arrogance are characteristics of those who do not raise with the suffering of others.

In the context of the verse, Jesus tells a parable in that a servant cannot pass along the great compassion you received from your Lord. So, the lesson of Obadiah and also the parable of Jesus encourage us to be compassionate, sensitive and humble, always doing the best by those who suffer and are in need. After all, this is how God acts with us.
