nossa própria língua! (Atos 2.11b).

A narrativa da construção
da cidade e da torre de Babel e a consequente confusão das línguas ensina
muitas lições importantes. Dentre elas, creio que uma das principais é a
frustrante tentativa de exaltarmos o nosso próprio nome a qualquer preço, pois
o resultado disso, via de regra, é confusão e ruína. Babel não é apenas símbolo
da confusão de línguas, mas da confusão de intenções; de uma relação desregrada
com a vida e, principalmente, com Deus (o autor da Vida). Aqueles homens
queriam fazer seu nome grandioso e desafiaram o Senhor.
Deus, todavia, tem o poder
de transformar o caos por intermédio da ação poderosa e restauradora do seu
Espírito. Em Atos 2, lemos que quando tudo estava confuso por causa da morte,
ressurreição e ascensão de Jesus e os discípulos ainda temiam o que lhes
aconteceria, o Espírito Santo foi derramado sobre eles e começaram a anunciar
as grandezas de Deus nas línguas de todos os povos que estavam presentes na
festa de Pentecoste. Lá, a confusão iniciada em Babel dá lugar à compreensão da
mensagem que o Espírito Santo comunica; povos são novamente unidos e o amor de
Deus por toda a humanidade (e não apenas por um povo) começa a ser proclamado.
O caos se transforma em ordem, e reconstrói-se o que a megalomania humana e o
pecado destruíram. É edificada não uma torre de vanglória, mas uma ponte de
comunicação de Deus com os homens. Em vez da incompreensão de Babel, o
derramamento do Espírito trouxe o entendimento das maravilhas de Deus!
Mesmo quando nossa vida
parece caótica e sequer conseguimos entender a nós mesmos ou o que acontece ao
nosso redor, o Espírito Santo vem com o poder de trazer ordem e restauração
para dentro da nossa vida, da nossa percepção de mundo e nos conduzir por novos
caminhos de compreensão mútua e paz com Deus!

We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our
own language. (Acts 2.11b).

The narrative of the construction of the city and the Tower of Babel and
the consequent confusion of languages teaches many important lessons. Among
them, I believe that one of the main is the frustrating attempt to glorify our
own name at any price, because the result often is confusion and ruin. Babel is
not only a symbol of the confusion of tongues, but the confusion of intent; a
haphazard relationship with life and, especially, with God (the author of
life). Those men wanted to make your name great and defied the Lord.
God, however, has the power to transform the chaos through the powerful
action of your restorative Spirit. In acts 2, we read that when everything was
confused because of the death, resurrection and Ascension of Jesus and the
disciples still feared what would happen to them, the Holy Spirit was poured
out on them and began to proclaim the greatness of God in languages of all
peoples who were present s on the feast of Pentecost. There, the trouble
started in Babel gives way to the understanding of the message that the Holy
Spirit communicates; people are United again and God's love for all mankind
(and not just by a people) starts to be proclaimed. Chaos turns in order, and
reconstructs what the megalomania and human Sin destroyed. Is built not a
bragging, but a communication bridge of God with men. Instead of the
misunderstanding of Babel, the outpouring of Spirit brought the understanding
of the wonders of God.
Even when our life seems chaotic and even we can understand ourselves or
what happens around us, the Holy Spirit comes with the power to bring order and
restoration into our life, our perception of the world and lead us for new ways
of mutual understanding and peace with God!
