Entre os nascidos de mulher
não surgiu ninguém maior do que João Batista; todavia, o menor no Reino dos
céus é maior do que ele (Mateus 11.11).

No texto de hoje lemos que Isabel, uma senhora estéril,
teria um filho. O nascimento de João foi especial desde sua concepção,
resultado de um milagre divino. Durante a gestação, outro fato inusitado: o pai
não conseguia falar. Além disso, quando Maria foi visitar Isabel, João se
agitou na barriga da mãe ao reconhecer a mãe de Jesus. Como explicar fatos
assim? Quando nasceu, todos esperavam que recebesse o nome do pai (uma espécie
de Zacarias Júnior). Porém, para surpresa de todos, foi chamado João, conforme
o anjo tinha dito. Somente então Zacarias voltou a falar. O nascimento daquele
menino foi tão especial que as pessoas se perguntavam sobre seu futuro (v 66),
pois viam que Deus estava com ele.
De fato, João foi um grande homem: o último profeta de
Israel, após mais de quatrocentos anos de silêncio da parte de Deus. Seu modo
de se vestir e sua alimentação eram diferentes, e sua mensagem, impactante: era
necessário arrepender-se de tudo o que desagrada a Deus e voltar-se a ele, pois
o Messias estava chegando. Quem concordava com isso era batizado, por isso João
foi conhecido como “batista” ou “o batizador”. Teve o privilégio de batizar o
próprio Filho de Deus encarnado! Talvez João sentisse que era especial.
Todavia, não se deixou levar pelo orgulho nem se tornou arrogante (veja João
3.30). Ele sabia que sua missão era preparar o caminho para alguém ainda mais
especial – Jesus.
Também somos especiais para Deus, mas com João aprendemos
que de modo algum somos superiores aos outros. Precisamos de Jesus como todas
as pessoas e, quando entregamos nossa vida a ele, recebemos uma missão parecida
com a de João: anunciar a necessidade de arrependimento e preparar o caminho
para que Cristo transforme a vida das pessoas. Então, reconheçamos humildemente
nossa dependência de Jesus e deixemos que ele dirija nossa vida!

In the text we read today that Isabel, a woman sterile, have a son. The
birth of John was especially since its inception, the result of a divine
miracle. During pregnancy, another unusual fact: the father could not talk. In
addition, when Mary went to visit Elizabeth, John rippled in the belly of the
mother to recognize the mother of Jesus. How to explain facts like that? When
you were born, everyone was waiting to get the name of the father (a species of
Zacharias Junior). However, to everyone's surprise, was named John, as the Angel
had said. Only then Zechariah spoke. The birth of that child was so special
that people wondered about their future (see 66), because they saw that God was
with him.
In fact, John was a great man: the last Prophet of Israel, after more
than 400 years of silence on the part of God. Their mode of dress and their
food were different, and his message, impressive: it was necessary to repent of
everything that displeases God and turn to him, because the Messiah was coming.
Who agreed with that was baptized, so John was known as "the Baptist"
or "the baptizer." Had the privilege of baptizing the son of God
incarnate! Maybe John felt that he was special. However, don't let pride or
became arrogant (see John 3.30). He knew that his mission was to prepare the
way for someone even more special – Jesus.
Also are special to God, but with John we learn that we are superior to
the other. We need Jesus as all people and when we commit our lives to him,
received a mission similar to that of John: announce the need for repentance
and prepare the way for Christ to transform people's lives. So, I humbly
acknowledge our dependence on Jesus and let him drive our life!
