No texto de
hoje, vemos que Xerxes levou quase 200 dias para exibir a riqueza de seu reino.
Ofereceu banquetes aos nobres e também comida e bebida à vontade ao povo da
cidade. Diante dos olhos espantados de todos havia pedras preciosas, tecidos
finos, ouro e prata. A vaidade e o orgulho estavam presentes em cada detalhe. A
bebida subiu à cabeça do rei e ele quis continuar a exibição de suas posses,
chamando para isso sua esposa. Mas a rainha não aceitou fazer esse papel. O rei
esqueceu que não podemos controlar as decisões e atitudes dos outros. E o
inesperado aconteceu.
Num momento, a glória de Xerxes foi ao chão. Imagine os comentários que
circularam entre seus convidados. Não se falava mais na riqueza, beleza e luxo
do ambiente. Agora, o motivo de admiração era a coragem e o caráter da rainha.
Os conselheiros tiveram medo que as outras esposas tivessem atitudes semelhantes
e eles perdessem o frágil comando sobre elas (quem sabe pensaram: “Depois
dessa, a vida lá em casa vai piorar!”).
O imprevisto
pôs à mostra a fraqueza, o despreparo, os defeitos. A atitude de Vasti deixou o
rei furioso e indignado. Ao invés da grandeza que tanto ostentou, o que se via
era pequenez. A majestade deu lugar a emoções infantis.
Esta história
nos faz lembrar que imprevistos acontecem – a questão é como reagimos a eles.
Reconheceremos que somos limitados e não podemos controlar as situações ou,
como o rei, seremos imaturos e deixaremos que as emoções nos dominem? Melhor é
buscar em Deus a ajuda diária para enfrentar o que vier e, em Cristo, o exemplo
de caráter que devemos desenvolver. A vida com Deus ensina que buscar grandeza
é demonstrar aos outros que ainda falta muito para alcançá-la! Deveríamos
buscar a glória de Deus, mesmo porque somos tão pequenos diante dele!

In
today's text, we see that Xerxes took almost 200 days to display the wealth of
his Kingdom. The nobles and also banquets offered food and drink at will to the
people of the city. Before the astonished eyes of all there were gems, fine
fabrics, gold and silver. Vanity and pride were present in every detail. The
drink went to the King's head and he wanted to continue displaying their
possessions, by calling to this his wife. But the Queen did not accept to do
this role. The King forgot that cannot control the decisions and attitudes of
others. And the unexpected happened.
In a moment, the glory of Xerxes was the floor.
Imagine the comments that have circulated among your guests. No one spoke more
in wealth, luxury and beauty of the environment. Now, the reason of admiration
was the courage and character of the Queen. The directors were afraid that the
other wives had similar attitudes and they lost the fragile command over them
(who knows thought: "after this, life at home is going to get
worse!").
The
unexpected put on display the weakness, the preparation, the defects. The
attitude of Vashti left the King angry and indignant. Instead of greatness that
both sported, you saw was smallness. The Majesty gave way to children's
emotions.
This
story reminds us that unforeseen events happen – the question is how we react
to them. Recognize that we are limited and we cannot control the situations or,
as King, we're going to be immature and let the emotions take over us? Better
get in daily help God to face whatever comes, and in Christ, the example of
character that we should develop. The life with God teaches that seek greatness
is to demonstrate to others that it's still a long way to reach it. We should
seek God's glory, if only because we are so small in front of him.
