Quando os
israelitas foram dominados pelos babilônicos, Daniel foi levado cativo para a
Babilônia. Lá, ele se manteve fiel às suas convicções e se recusou a certas
práticas religiosas e culturais que feriam seus princípios. Com coragem e
determinação, foi reconhecido em seu valor e inteligência, mesmo não se
dobrando às imposições do rei estrangeiro.
No texto de
hoje, o rei que sucede Nabucodonosor fica aterrorizado com palavras misteriosas
que surgem na parede do seu palácio. Chama Daniel para interpretá-las. Ele
repreende o rei por sua altivez e decifra as inscrições. Certamente poderia ter
sido morto pelo que disse, mas o rei cumpre sua promessa a Daniel. E no fim é
morto num golpe político.
Até que ponto
você defende suas convicções? Daniel amava a Deus e tinha um grande senso de
justiça. Ele não se sujeitava àquilo que feria suas convicções religiosas e
pessoais e estava disposto a sofrer as consequências disso. Tal força de
caráter lhe rendeu respeito e reconhecimento, apesar dos riscos que correu. Em
vez de sucumbir à autoridade opressora, ele se posicionou com base em sua fé e
amor por Deus. E Deus cuidou dele.
Hoje, muitos
abrem mão facilmente de suas convicções para não serem mal vistos, ou por
temerem consequências e, assim, são coniventes com a opressão política ou
religiosa, com a injustiça, com os desmandos de autoridades sem ética. A
história bíblica e humana está repleta de pessoas que enfrentaram os poderosos
com base em suas convicções. Não abriram concessões, não fizeram uso da
violência, mas sua postura firme modificou o destino de pessoas e nações.
Cristo foi um exemplo de quem não abria mão de suas convicções e falava o que
devia ser dito a quem quer que fosse. Ser cristão também é confrontar a
injustiça, a corrupção, a intolerância e desrespeito com a mesma firmeza e
convicção, mostrando que Deus exalta os humildes, mas humilha os soberbos.

When
the Israelites were dominated by the Babylonians, Daniel was taken captive to
Babylon. There, he remained true to his convictions and refused to certain
religious and cultural practices that hurt its principles. With courage and
determination, was recognized in its value and intelligence, even if not
doubling foreign King's demands.
In
today's text, the King who succeeded Nebuchadnezzar is terrified of mysterious
words that appear on the wall of his palace. Calls Daniel to interpret them. He
rebukes the King for his aplomb and decipher the inscriptions. Certainly could
have been killed for what he said, but the King keeps his promise to Daniel. And
at the end is killed in a political coup.
The
extent to which you defend your convictions? Daniel loved God and had a great
sense of Justice. He had been subject to not hurt their religious convictions
and personal and was willing to suffer the consequences of it. Such strength of
character earned him respect and recognition, despite the risks he ran. Rather
than succumb to oppressive authority, he positioned itself on the basis of
their faith and love for God. And God took care of him.
Today,
many give up easily from his convictions for not being bad, or for fear of
consequences and thus are colluding with political or religious oppression,
injustice, with the disobedience of authorities without ethics. The biblical
story and human is full of people who braved the powerful based on his
convictions. Did not open concessions, not made use of violence, but his firm
stance has changed the fate of people and Nations. Christ was an example of who
wouldn't open hand of his convictions and what should be said to anybody. Being
a Christian is also confronting injustice, corruption, intolerance and
disrespect with the same strength and conviction, showing that God exalts the
humble, but humiliates the proud.
